What’s my Flood Risk?

Statistics state that 1 in every 6 homes in the UK is at risk of flooding – that’s a whopping 5.2 million properties! You don’t need to live near a river or the seat to be at risk of being flooded (although 2.4 million homes are) there are a further 2.8 million homes at risk of flooding from surface water and overflowing drains. It’s not just home owners that are high flood risk, there are an estimated 300,000 businesses located in high flood risk areas too. Despite increased awareness of flooding it isn’t just existing properties that are high flood risk. In 2015 over 10,000 brand new homes were built in in a flood plains – that’s 7% of all new homes.
Being aware of your flood risk is the first step to managing it and here at Flood Assist as well as providing flood insurance solutions we have also developed an online map that allows you to understand whether your home or your business is located in an area that is at risk from flooding from a river or the sea.
By typing your postcode or location in to our online maps you’ll instantly be able to tell if you’re at risk and if so to what extent. Our data is taken directly from the Environment Agency and Natural Resource Wales so it’s bang up to date.
If you are located in one of the various blue shaded areas on our maps then you are at risk of flooding, generally the darker the blue the more at risk you are. Let’s take a look in more detail as to how at risk you are by explaining what the 4 risk areas mean:
Just because your home has never flooded it doesn’t mean it won’t!
