River levels are rising in the River Don at Swinton Bridge and Mexborough due to persistent heavy rainfall yesterday, Friday 20th October. Flooding in areas adjacent to the river is expected overnight and through the morning on Saturday. We expect the river level to peak by between 09:00 – 12:00 on Saturday, 21st October 2023.

River levels at our Mexborough Lock river level gauge peaked on 08/11/2019 and have continued to fall through today, 09/11/19. Levels are expected to remain high throughout the weekend into Monday 11/11/19, with the catchment nearing capacity, so this warning remains in force.
The weather should mainly be dry on Saturday and Sunday with no significant rain forecast on these days. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring the forecast and our incident room remains open. Please see the GOV.UK website for a 5 day flood forecast.

River levels are extremely high as a result of persistent rainfall and the catchment is at full capacity. Consequently, the risk of flooding of property and roads remains around Mexborough. Further showers are forecast over the next 24 hours however we do not expect this rainfall to cause any further impacts. We do expect river levels to remain high until tomorrow evening 09/11/19.
Our incident response staff have been deploying pumps, people and equipment. We are operating all our flood risk assets to their maximum.
