River levels remain high in a number of locations in the area following the heavy rainfall yesterday, Thursday 5 March. Some flooding to low lying land and roads is expected to continue throughout the day today, Friday 6 March. River levels have peaked and are falling, so we expect the situation to begin to improve. Locations of likely flooding include areas around Bonehurst Bridge and Salfords. In some locations river levels have already fallen below the levels we would expect them to cause flooding, but standing floodwaters and debris may remain. Further rainfall is forecast through the weekend and into next week. Please avoid contact with flood water and stay safe in the areas of concern. We will continue to monitor the situation from our incident room and we will have staff in the area checking for blockages today. This message will be updated or removed by 6pm, Friday 6 March, or as the situation changes.

River levels have risen as a result of persistent rainfall throughout today. As a result, flooding of low lying land and roads is possible overnight tonight and into tomorrow, Friday 6th March 2020. The heaviest rain is forecast to clear by this evening, although there may still be some scattered showers overnight. The remainder of this week is expected to be largely dry, although there may be some further showers over the weekend. We expect river levels to rise until the early hours of Friday morning, before starting to fall throughout the day. Our incident response staff are clearing trash screens and actively monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond if required. Please remain aware of your local situation and avoid walking or driving through flood water. This could cause the river to rise again and may cause more flooding than is presently being experienced. We expect river levels to peak during the afternoon today, although some further rain showers could be experienced. Further heavy rainfall is forecast on Friday which may cause river levels to respond again, particularly if they have not returned to normal. We expect river levels from the rain overnight to remain high until 8pm Thursday. Further heavy rainfall is forecast on Friday which may cause river levels to respond further, particularly if they have not returned to normal. This Flood Alert has been removed. River levels peaked overnight and are now falling across this area. There is no longer a current threat of flooding, though standing water and debris may still remain. The risk of further heavy rain showers continues today, but there is uncertainty in the nature of these showers and they are not expected to cause flooding at this stage. Over the last 24 hours we have seen heavy rainfall in the River Mole area. This has meant that levels on the Salfords Stream are now rising. Levels here suggest that there will be flooding to low lying land and roads close to the watercourse early this evening. Locations upstream of Horley are not expected to see a further significant rise in water level. We expect the river to remain high throughout this evening, though no flooding to property is forecast and warnings are not expected to be issued. Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions. We are constantly monitoring river levels and have staff in the area checking for, and clearing blockages in this location. During Wednesday morning and afternoon we have seen heavy rainfall across the Mole catchment. The catchments have received in excess of 40mm of rainfall in the past 12 hours, causing river levels to rise quickly. Further rainfall, potentially heavy, is forecast for this evening. Flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river is possible. Flooding from surface water could also occur and driving conditions may be difficult. We expect the river to remain high for the remainder of this evening and early tomorrow morning. No further rainfall is forecast for Thursday. We are constantly monitoring river levels and weather forecasts and have staff on standby to attend to any blockages in the river.
