Heavy and persistent rain will affect the West Highlands from Friday night and throughout Saturday. High tides along with surge and wave action will also affect coastal areas throughout the weekend and into Monday. Inland, this may lead to localised flooding from surface water, small watercourses and larger rivers, with the high flows on the larger rivers continuing into Sunday. Coastal areas are at risk from wave overtopping and strong winds, particularly in regions exposed to the southwest. A FLOOD ALERT has been issued for Skye and Lochaber. This Flood Alert is for coastal flooding. On Friday, high tides are expected to affect the area due to a storm surge and large waves associated with Storm Callum. The upper parts of Loch Linnhe are at greatest risk at high tide on Friday evening which is expected at around 8pm. Localised flooding to low-lying land and roads is likely. Some limited spray and wave overtopping along coastal roads and sea fronts could also occur. SEPA will continue to monitor the situation and further updates will appear here if the situation changes. An updated FLOOD ALERT has been issued for Skye and Lochaber. This Flood Alert is for river and coastal flooding. A spell of persistent and heavy rainfall is expected to continue to affect the area from Monday through into late Tuesday. Rivers have already responded to heavy rain on Sunday and will quickly respond again to further persistent rainfall. Localised flooding to low-lying land and roads is expected, this will be coupled with difficult driving conditions and ponding of water in known trouble spots. Property flooding could occur. Tides will also be high over the next few days and if these coincide with high river flows, this has the potential to increase the flooding risk along coastal areas particularly at the head of Loch Linnhe.
