This alert is for fluvial (river) and coastal flooding Heavy and persistent rain will affect the Southern Uplands and South West Scotland from Friday night and throughout Saturday. High tides along with surge and wave action will also affect coastal areas throughout the weekend and into Monday. Inland, this may lead to localised flooding from surface water, small watercourses and larger rivers, with the high flows on the larger rivers continuing into Sunday. Rivers and Surface Water Flooding A spell of prolonged and at times heavy rainfall is expected to affect the area from Friday through until Saturday. The area at greatest risk is currently looking like eastern parts (Dumfriesshire) where some localised flooding to low-lying land and roads is likely. Property flooding could also occur. Difficult driving conditions and ponding of water in known trouble spots should be expected. Coastal Flooding From early Friday through until early on Saturday morning a series of high tides are expected because of a storm surge associated with Storm Callum.
