Storm Ashley, bringing strong winds, large waves and spray overtopping on the coast, is expected to cause flooding overnight. Highest tide level is expected at 2:15 AM on 21/10/2024. Flooding is possible several hours either side of this time. Areas most at risk include Allonby, Maryport, Flimby, Workington, Parton and Whitehaven areas. We have closed flood gates at Flimby and Maryport. Start acting on your flood plan if you have one. Stay away from beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous. Please don't put yourself or others at risk. After the high tide overnight‚ the weather is more settled and no further flooding is expected. This message will be updated by 9:00 AM on 21/10/2024, or as the situation changes.

Flooding is possible several hours either side of this time. Areas most at risk include Allonby, Maryport, Flimby, Workington, Parton and Whitehaven areas. We have closed flood gates at Flimby and Maryport. Stay away from beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous. The high tide tonight, at 12:20 AM Saturday 19/02/2022, is again higher than normal, due to Storm Eunice bringing storm force winds, large waves, and spray overtopping on the coast. Large waves and spray overtopping are forecast to cause flooding and damage along the coast at Maryport, Flimby, Workington and Whitehaven. Impacts are possible 2 hours either side of high tide forecast, at 12:20 AM. We do not expect to see similar impacts for tomorrow Saturday lunchtime’s high tide, but further unsettled weather is forecast and as a result we may issue further alerts and warnings over the next 2 to 3 days. Our incident response staff are closing flood gates and checking defences. Stay away from beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous. This message will be updated tomorrow morning 19/02/22, or as the situation changes.

We do not expect to see similar impacts for tonight’s high tide, but further unsettled weather is forecast as a result we may issue further alerts and warnings over the next 2 to 3 days.
