A FLOOD ALERT has been issued for Dumfries and Galloway. This Flood Alert is for river, surface water and coastal flooding. Rivers and Surface Water Flooding A spell of prolonged and at times heavy rainfall is expected to affect the area from Friday through until Saturday. The area at greatest risk is currently looking like eastern parts (Dumfriesshire) where some localised flooding to low-lying land and roads is likely. Property flooding could also occur. Difficult driving conditions and ponding of water in known trouble spots should be expected. Coastal Flooding From early Friday through until early on Saturday morning a series of high tides are expected because of a storm surge associated with Storm Callum. The times of greatest risk are at around 1:30am and 1;30pm on Friday and then again at 2:30am on Saturday. Waves are likely to peak around Friday lunchtime. At periods of high tide, flooding to low-lying land and roads is likely. Spray and wave overtopping along coastal roads and sea fronts is also likely with the greatest risk of this on Friday at lunchtime. Some isolated flooding of properties could occur. SEPA will continue to monitor the situation and further updates will appear here if the situation changes. A FLOOD ALERT has been issued for Dumfries and Galloway. This Flood Alert is for River and Coastal flooding. Watercourses will have high water levels which may be further increased as a result of high tide levels around Wigtownshire and Kirkcudbrightshire. High water is at approximately 13:00. An area of heavy rain is expected to move east across the area late on Monday evening and persist through until Tuesday afternoon. This rain has the potential to be prolonged in places and some flooding to low lying land and roads is possible. Surface water flooding issues are also likely and could exacerbate difficult driving conditions. High (Spring) tides will combine with a moderate storm surge on Tuesday and as a result, flooding to low lying land and roads is possible at around 13:00. Strong winds will also generate some waves which may increase the risk of flooding. The greatest risk of flooding from waves is most likely in more western parts of the Dumfries and Galloway. An updated FLOOD ALERT has been issued for Dumfries and Galloway. High tides combined with a large storm surge are expected throughout the region late tonight Tuesday (2nd Jan) into Wednesday. Coastal communities and roads may witness flooding during times at and around high tide midnight Tuesday and midday Wednesday. Exposed westerly facing communities may see some minor wave overtopping at times of high tide. Please note, local flood warnings for some communities will be in force. An updated FLOOD ALERT has been issued for Dumfries and Galloway. High tides combined with a large storm surge are expected throughout the region late tonight Tuesday (2nd Jan) into Wednesday. Coastal communities and roads may witness flooding during times at and around high tide midnight Tuesday and midday Wednesday. Exposed westerly facing communities may see some minor wave overtopping at times of high tide. Please note, local flood warnings for some communities will be in force. High tides will affect coastal areas on Monday at lunchtime and again in the early hours of Tuesday morning, waves are also likely to build during this time. The Tuesday morning tide is more likely to cause some issues with high tide expected between 01:00 and 01:30. Impacts if realised could include flooding to low lying land and roads and wave overtopping at or around the time of high tide.
