With the storm approaching tonight and into tomorrow morning, we are expecting very bad weather to affect the West Coast of Dorset. Very strong winds and large waves could overtop sea defences with sea spray, and the tidal surge will help to increase the water levels. The forecast high water is at 05:30 AM tomorrow morning 30/09/2024, with Force 8 south-westerly winds. All times are local, and for more detail please refer to your local tide tables. Flooding to roads and low lying land is possible at these times, however conditions may apply two to four hours either side of the high tide. We expect Chiswell to be affected but Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Seatown, West Bay, Bothenhampton, Burton Freshwater, Burton Bradstock, Cogdean Beach, Chesil Beach, West Fleet and East Fleet will also experience the same bad weather. Please be careful along beaches, promenades and coastal footpaths and roads. The detailed tidal information for those who use it is for a peak level at Portland Harbour of 1.91 mAODN at 8:00 PM this evening on 08/04/2024, with southerly force 7 winds. The second peak at Portland Harbour and Chiswell of 1.81 mAODN is at 8:00 AM tomorrow on 09/04/2024, with westerly force 7 winds. Weather conditions are expected to produce large offshore waves. large waves may lead to spray carrying beach debris onto the causeway between Weymouth and Portland. Our incident response staff are checking flood gates and will be onsite carrying out a tide watch. Areas most at risk include all coastal locations between Lyme Regis and Weymouth but particularly at Chiswell. The high tide time at Portland tonight is 9:16 PM, 20/02/2022 and tomorrow at Portland, 21/02/21, the time is at 9:28 AM. We are closely monitoring the situation and our incident response staff are checking defences. The offshore tidal surge could increase water levels for one to two hours either side of high water. Stay away from Dorset beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous. The forecast high water for Chiswell is at 09:15 PM on 18/02/2022 with a level of 1.16 mAODN with westerly force 7 winds and waves of 4.4 metres. Heavy spray, strong winds and some large waves will make walking close to exposed coastlines especially dangerous today. Rainfall over the Christmas period has made cliffs highly unstable, and you are advised to stay well clear of both the edge and the foot of cliffs. A large tidal surge is expected to affect the West Dorset Coast as a result of high spring tides and strong winds this evening and tomorrow morning 27/11/2019. High water is at around 6:25pm this evening 26/11/2019 and the morning of 27/11/2019 around 6:45 am. The wind strength is Force 5 from the south west. Flooding to roads and farmland is expected and may apply two to four hours either side of the high tides. There is a possibility of flooding for Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Seaton, West Bay, Bothenhampton, Burton Freshwater, Burton Bradstock, Cogdean Beach, Chesil Beach, West Fleet, East Fleet, Chiswell and Portland Harbour. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences. Please stay aware in case further warnings are issued and stay away from large waves. Large and powerful waves are expected to affect the foreshore along the Dorset Coast as a result of strong onshore winds. We advise people to stay away from the foreshore as the wind and waves are dangerous. We do not forecast the situation to deteriorate any further with wind and waves forecast to reduce Sunday morning. We are monitoring the situation and will update this message should the situation change.

Consequently, flooding is possible for the duration of the morning, between 08:00 on 02/11/19 and 11:00 on 02/11/19. Areas most at risk are Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Seatown, West Bay, Bothenhampton, Freshwater, Burton Bradstock, Cogdean Beach, Chesil Beach, West Fleet, East Fleet and Chiswell Continuing strong winds will cause additional wave overtopping throughout the morning between Lyme Regis & Portland. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences and liaising with emergency services. Detailed tidal information for those who use it; The time and date of the forecast high water is 05:45 on 26/10/2019. The forecast tide level including waves is 6.1 m AOD. The forecast wind strength and direction is Force 7 South westerly. Please note all tide times are in local time and are using the 24 hour clock and refer to the high water time at West Bay. Potentially dangerous spray overtopping is possible at this time, conditions may apply one to two hours either side of the high tide.
