River Tees
Levels on the River Tees upstream of Barnard Castle are starting to peak, therefore the river level at Barnard Castle is expected to remain high throughout the evening but will begin falling by 22:00 (Sunday, 20/02/22). Areas most at risk are properties around Lartington Lane including Flaxfield, The Sills including Ullathorne Rise and Teesdale Road, Bridgegate, Thorngate including Thorngate Place and Thorngate Wynd, The Lendings, River View Park and Abbey Lane. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please move possession and valuables off the ground or to safety and move family, pets and cars to safety. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water. This message will be updated by midnight tonight (20/02/2022), or as the situation changes.
River Tees
River levels are rising at the Barnard Castle river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland is possible between 15:30 and 20:30 today, 20/02/2022. Areas most at risk are Properties around Lartington Lane including Flaxfield, The Sills including Ullathorne Rise and Teesdale Road, Bridgegate, Thorngate including Thorngate Place and Thorngate Wynd, The Lendings, River View Park and Abbey Lane. Further rainfall is expected and we expect river levels to remain high for the rest of the day before falling overnight into Monday morning. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are continuing to clear trash screens in the area. Please move possession and valuables off the ground or to safety and move family, pets and cars to safety.
