The Flood Alert for the Lower River Tees is still in effect. River levels have fallen on the Lower River Tees with no further significant rainfall forecast today, 17/03/2019. The flood gates at Sainsbury’s in Yarm are now open, however the remaining flood gates in Yarm will remain closed until mid-Monday morning, 18/03/2019. The riverside footpath may remain flooded throughout Sunday and into Monday. Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded and avoid using low lying footpaths and riverside walkways. This message will be updated by 11:00 tomorrow, 18/03/2019, or as the situation changes.

The Flood Alert for the Lower River Tees is still in effect. River levels remain high but are now falling on the Lower River Tees, with no further significant rainfall forecast today, 17/03/2019. The flood gates at Sainsbury’s in Yarm are now open, however the remaining flood gates in Yarm will remain closed until Monday morning, 18/03/2019. The riverside footpath will remain flooded throughout Sunday and into Monday. We are closely monitoring the situation. River levels are expected to continue to rise in places on the Lower River Tees but will generally remain high during Saturday night 16/03/2019. No further significant rainfall is expected throughout Saturday night, 16/03/2019 and Sunday 17/03/2019. Consequently, flooding is possible up to 10:00 on Sunday morning, 17/03/2019. Areas most at risk are riverside footpaths around Yarm and low lying land and roads in the lower Tees Valley. The flood gates in Yarm are now closed and will remain closed throughout Saturday night 16/03/2019. Flooding of properties is not currently expected. We are closely monitoring the situation and our incident response staff are monitoring flood gates and defences. Consequently, flooding is possible between 15:00 today, 16/03/2019 and the early hours of Sunday morning, 17/03/2019. Areas most at risk are riverside footpaths around Yarm and low lying land and roads in the lower Tees Valley. The flood gates in Yarm are expected to be closed this afternoon by 16:00. River levels have risen on the river Tees as a result of heavy rainfall overnight on 14/03/2019. Flooding of low lying roads and farmland is likely between 19:00 today and 02:00 tomorrow (15/03/2019). Areas most at risk are riverside footpaths around Yarm and low lying land and roads in the lower Tees Valley. The flood gates in Yarm will not be closed due to the forecast water level not requiring their closure. Flooding of properties is not expected. We expect river levels to remain high until the early hours of Friday morning. Further rain is forecast throughout Saturday 16/03/19 and the flood gates may require closure then. All remaining floodgates will be closed in the early hours of Saturday morning (13th October 2018). This is in response to the forecast of further rainfall overnight and prolonged and sometimes heavy rainfall throughout Saturday. Gates will remain closed until river levels have fallen back to normal levels. We expect the River Tees to remain high on Saturday though no flooding to properties is currently forecast and warnings are not expected to be issued. This flood alert has been issued to inform about the closure of some of the Yarm flood gates. In anticipation of prolonged and heavy rainfall today and tomorrow in the River Tees area we will be closing some of the flood gates in Yarm today (12th October) before 6pm. The flood gates we are closing will not restrict public access to the riverside. As river levels rise overnight we may need to close the remaining flood gates. These gates will then remain closed until river levels have fallen. We expect the River Tees to remain high on Saturday though no flooding to properties is currently forecast and warnings are not expected to be issued. In anticipation of prolonged and heavy rainfall today and tomorrow in the River Tees area we will be closing some of the flood gates in Yarm today (12th October) before 6pm. Over the last 24 hours we have seen heavy rainfall over the River Tees catchment causing river levels to rise on the Lower Tees throughout the afternoon and evening. This alert will remain in force overnight as levels at Yarm in particular will remain high. We are closing Yarm flood gates as a precaution. Levels suggest that there will be flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river though no flooding to properties is currently forecast and warnings are not expected to be issued. We expect the river to remain high throughout this afternoon though no flooding to properties is currently forecast and warnings are not expected to be issued. After prolonged rainfall overnight the level of the River Tees remains high. Isolated showers throughout the day are expected but are unlikely to have significant effects on river levels. The flood alert will remain in force until river levels drop. There may be flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river at Yarm. The flood gates at Yarm are currently closed and will remain closed until the river level has dropped. We do not currently expect any issues on the Lustrum Beck in Stockton. River Tees
Over the last 12 hours we have seen heavy rainfall in the River Tees area. This means that the River Tees is expected to rise steadily through this evening and overnight tonight (Wednesday 22nd November). Levels currently suggest that there will be flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river at Yarm. We do not currently expect any issues on the Lustrum Beck in Stockton. We are closely monitoring river levels and forecasts and have staff out clearing blockages and checking defences. We are considering closing the flood gates at Yarm overnight – as a precaution please ensure vehicles are moved out of car parks that are affected in advance of this. If the gates are closed then they will remain closed all night until further notice. Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions.
