This flood alert has been issued as overtopping waves and spray are expected as a result of high tides and strong winds. Areas of particular concern are Scarborough Sandside and Scarborough Foreshore Road North. Overtopping waves and spray are expected at Sandside on Sunday 16.2.20 between 11.00 and 12.30 and at Sandside and Foreshore Road between 20.45 and 01.30. This alert is also in force for Monday morning’s high tide between 9.00 to 11.30. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring the forecast. Waves are forecast to overtop sea frontages at Scarborough with sea spray expected as a result of strong onshore winds. Consequently, flooding of coastal areas is expected between 17:45 and 18:45 today 15/01/2020. Areas most at risk are Foreshore Road near the Harbour area, Scarborough. Strong winds are forecast to cause large waves Coastal conditions should ease by 19:00 this evening. We are closely monitoring the forecast. Please stay away from large waves as they are dangerous. Overtopping waves and spray are expected as a result of strong winds and large waves following Storm Brendan. Overtopping waves are expected to affect the Scarborough area between 17:30 and 19:30 on Wednesday evening (15/01/20). Areas most at risk are low lying land and roads, particularly on Foreshore Road North, where a flood warning may be required. Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous and see the GOV.UK website for a 5 day flood forecast. We are closely monitoring the situation and the forecast over the next few tides.
