River Stort, Stansted Brook
The River Stort through Clavering remains high as a result of recent rainfall. The river has continued to fall through Saturday 30 December but remains high and sensitive to further rainfall. No flooding to properties is expected. A band of rain is forecast to cross through the area overnight on Saturday 30 December into New Year’s Eve which could cause river levels to rise again. Take care near the areas of concern, particularly where there could be surface water on roads and monitor your local weather conditions. We will continue to closely monitor river levels and this message will be updated on Sunday morning or earlier if the situation changes.

The River Stort through Clavering remains high as a result of recent rainfall. The river has now fallen but will remain high throughout Saturday 30 December. No flooding to properties is expected. A band of rain is forecast to cross through the area overnight on Saturday into New Year’s Eve which could cause river levels to rise again. This alert remains in force to cover this rainfall. Take care near the areas of concern, particularly where there could be surface water on roads and monitor your local weather conditions. We have issued a Flood Alert. Rain that has fallen today, Friday 29 December has caused the River Stort through Clavering to rise. Flooding to low-lying land, roads and riverside gardens is possible this evening and overnight. Surface water flooding may also affect these areas. We recommend you monitor local water levels and weather conditions. Consider putting your flood plan into action. You should avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. We expect the river to remain high overnight as a result of further rain forecast for this evening. Saturday should be mostly dry. We are constantly monitoring river levels and the weather forecast. This message will be updated tomorrow morning or earlier if the situation changes.

Over the course of the day we have seen moderately heavy rainfall in the area. The River Stort has started to rise in response to this rainfall. We expect the river to continue to rise overnight Tuesday 26th December and remain high throughout Wednesday 27th December. No flooding to properties is forecast and warnings are not expected to be issued. We are continuing to monitor river levels and have staff in the field checking for and clearing blockages This message will be updated at 10am on Wednesday 27th December or earlier if the situation changes.

Persistent heavy rain is expected during the evening of Tuesday 26th December 2017 and overnight in to the morning of Wednesday 27th December 2017. River levels are currently normal for the time of year and are expected to rise following the forecast rainfall. Flooding to low lying roads, land, gardens backing on to rivers and surface water flooding is expected between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, 26th to 27th December. We expect the river to remain high in to the afternoon and evening of 27th December 2017. We will be closely monitoring the situation throughout the day and this message will be updated as the situation changes. River levels in the Clavering and Manuden areas may be particularly high, with local fords becoming impassable and surface water runoff disrupting travel. We also have staff on standby to attend to any blockages in the river. This message will be updated this evening or earlier if the situation changes.

The heavy rain and thunderstorms have now moved clear of the Sawbridgeworth, Bishop’s Stortford and Clavering areas. The River Stort is still rising slowly in the Clavering area, however river levels have stabilised in Bishops Stortford and Sawbridgeworth. With the River Stort still rising slowly and some rain possible today, this Flood Alert remains in force. Some flooding of low lying land and surface water may still be present. The outlook for the remainder of the week is unsettled, but with less rainfall forecast than we have seen over yesterday (Tuesday 27th June) and this morning (Wednesday 28th June). We are constantly monitoring river levels. This message will be updated this afternoon.

Throughout Tuesday 27th June we have seen heavy rainfall in the Sawbridgeworth, Bishop’s Stortford and Clavering areas. This has meant that the River Stort is now rising and is forecast to continue rising overnight. The main locations of concern are the Sawbridgeworth and Clavering areas, levels suggest that there may be flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river overnight and into the early hours of Wednesday morning. Flooding from surface water could also occur. We expect the river to rise and remain high throughout the night though no flooding to properties is forecast and warnings are not expected to be issued. Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions. We are constantly monitoring river levels, this message will be updated tomorrow morning or earlier if the situation changes.
