This flood alert has been issued as a precautionary measure, as heavy rain and storms have been forecast for this area for this morning Saturday 28th July. There is uncertainty however, over the amount and location of the rainfall, any storms are likely to be very localised and many areas may remain dry. Where these storms do occur there is a risk of localised surface water flooding and flooding from smaller faster responding rivers , flooding of low lying land can be expected. A band of persistent heavy rain and snow overnight and into this morning has caused river levels to rise, rivers may continue to rise and remain high due to snow melt. At 7:00 am today; the level at the River Chelt, Cox's Flume Gauge was 0.87 metres and steady. A peak level of up to 1.3 metres is expected to occur this morning.

A band of persistent heavy rain is expected overnight Tuesday 26th December 2017 and into the morning of Wednesday 27th December 2017. River levels are currently normal for the time of year but will rise following forecast rainfall. At 9:00 pm today; the level at the River Chelt, Cox's Flume Gauge was 1.15 metres and rising. A peak level of between 1.0 and 1.5 metres is expected to occur tomorrow morning.
