Flood Alert issued on 11 Mar 2020 18:56
River Crane
A high tide of 4.9m is expected at Richmond at around 4:30am on Thursday 12 March. Due to high fluvial flows coming down the River Crane, the Crane Tidal Gates may not be able to close to hold back the incoming tide from the River Thames. As a result, the incoming tide will flow up the River Crane which, when combined with the fluvial flow already in the channel, will push levels very high. Some flooding of gardens and low lying land is expected around 4:30am although we do not expect any flooding to buildings. Any flooding is likely to be of short duration covering the period around high tide. We advise the public to monitor local water levels and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. We are constantly monitoring the situation and this alert will be re-issued for future tides if required.
