This Flood Alert has been issued as we expect heavy rainfall overnight to lead to some flooding. Flooding to low lying land and roads is forecast during the early morning tomorrow, Thursday 21 October. The first flooding is expected from approximately 4am, continuing throughout the day. Flooding is likely in multiple areas along the River Darent, particularly to low land near the river between Westerham and Otford. There is currently some uncertainty in where the heaviest rain will fall so some areas may only see raised river levels and no flooding. Further showers are possible during Thursday, leading to some continued flooding into the evening. Water levels in the Hawley area will be slower to respond with any flooding not expected until later in the day Thursday. Please avoid contact with flood water and be careful in riverside areas along the River Darent. We will be closely monitoring the situation and will issue further messages if needed. River levels have risen as a result of heavy rainfall overnight. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible this morning Friday 20/12/2019. Further rainfall is forecast over the next 4 hours and we expect river levels to remain high throughout today Friday 20/12/2019. Our incident response staff are actively monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond if required. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.
