This Flood Alert has been issued as we expect heavy rainfall overnight to lead to some flooding. Flooding to low lying land and roads is forecast during the early morning tomorrow, Thursday 21 October. The first flooding is expected from approximately 4am, continuing throughout the day. Flooding is likely in multiple areas along the River Darent, particularly to low land near the river between Westerham and Otford. There is currently some uncertainty in where the heaviest rain will fall so some areas may only see raised river levels and no flooding. Further showers are possible during Thursday, leading to some continued flooding into the evening. Water levels in the Hawley area will be slower to respond with any flooding not expected until later in the day Thursday. Please avoid contact with flood water and be careful in riverside areas along the River Darent. We will be closely monitoring the situation and will issue further messages if needed. River levels have risen as a result of heavy rainfall. We expect flooding for low lying land, gardens and roads close to the river. Particular areas of concern include Westerham and Otford. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking our defences and structures and liaising with emergency services and our partners. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers which may be flooded. Please maintain awareness of your local situation and avoid contact with flood waters. Further rainfall is expected throughout Saturday 21/12/2019 which may cause further rises in river levels.
