Overnight into Thursday we have seen consistent heavy rainfall across the area. This has caused rivers and streams to rise.
The main area of concern is currently Clavering and Manuden where river levels have risen the most. There is likely to be flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river throughout the day on Thursday. Flooding from surface water, where water gathers and flows off road surfaces, could also occur. Other areas of the Stort catchment are likely to see flooding later in the day.
We expect the river to remain high today as further rain is forecast during the day. We are closely monitoring the situation and will issue a Flood Warning if property flooding is expected. You should avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.
We are constantly monitoring river levels and have staff on standby to attend to any blockages in the river.

Following last night’s heavy rainfall river levels remain high, but are now beginning to fall, in the River Stort and Stansted Brook catchment. Flooding of roads and low lying land in and around the Clavering area will remain possible throughout the evening on Sunday 27 December and into Monday. Surface water may also be seen and standing water may remain for several days.
Further rainfall is possible on Monday, however river levels are falling and we do not expect the situation to deteriorate further as a result.

Following last night’s heavy rainfall river levels remain high, but are now beginning to fall, in the River Stort and Stansted Brook catchment. Flooding of roads and low lying land will remain possible throughout the afternoon on Thursday 24 December.
No further rainfall is forecast over Christmas Eve or Christmas Day and we expect levels to continue to fall. However, further rain is possible on Saturday and into Sunday 27 December. We will continue to closely monitor the situation.

Levels in the River Stort remain high but are gradually starting to fall in Harlow and Bishops Stortford. In Sawbridgeworth, levels are high and stable. In Clavering and Manuden the river should be back within its banks.
