River levels are high but steady on the Lower River Lee from Hoddesdon to Canning Town as a result of persistent heavy rainfall on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd November 2022. The risk of flooding to roads and low-lying land is now reducing but river levels remain high. Further light rainfall is forecast this evening, Thursday 3rd November 2022 but we do not expect river levels to rise again as a result. We expect river levels to remain high overnight until tomorrow morning, Friday 4th November. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are monitoring rainfall and river levels, and are checking rivers for blockages and clearing debris from structures. Please avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses as there may still be standing water in some locations. There is likely to be flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river this evening, Wednesday 17th August. Flooding from surface water, where water gathers and flows off road surfaces, could also occur. We expect rivers in these areas to remain high for a few hours but should start to recede later this evening. No flooding to properties is currently expected. However, there is a separate flood warning in place for the Ching Brook at Chingford where river levels are higher and there is a risk of property flooding. We are constantly monitoring river levels and have staff on standby to attend to any blockages in the river. Although the heaviest rainfall has now passed, river levels remain high in some locations of the Lower Lee catchment. Most locations have seen river levels drop overnight. In areas where they are still high, water levels have now largely stabilised and should begin to drop away during today (Friday 15 January). However, some further rain is forecast on Saturday. Although this rainfall will be less than we have received in the last few days it will fall on saturated catchments and could cause river levels to rise again. Flood waters may be deep and fast flowing in this area. Residents are strongly urged to take action now. Remain safe and be aware of your local surroundings. We will be closely monitoring the situation throughout the day and we have staff available to clear any blockages in the river.
