Western Yar

The water level in the Western Yar at Freshwater is high and rising rapidly. In the last 3 hours, 35mm of rain has been recorded at Afton. This is a significant amount in a short period of time. From 06:30 Friday 29/08/2025 surface water will flood School Green Road in Freshwater. The river will be bank full and may also come out of bank in some places, adding to the volume of water in the roads. Heavy rain will continue to affect the area over the next 2 hours with up to 20mm possible. With continued rainfall if water levels continue to increase, in the next 1 hour we may issue a Flood Warning, for onset of property flooding from the river. Our operational teams are out keeping streams clear of reported blockages. We continue to monitor the forecast. If you live on School Green Road, please take appropriate action so that you can protect your property if required. This Flood Alert will be updated at 12:00 Friday 29/08/25 or sooner, if we think property flooding will occur.
