This Flood Alert remains in force as river levels are high again at Smarden and at Stile Bridge in response to further rainfall during Tuesday, 28 December. Flooding could affect low lying land and roads again between Smarden and Hunton, until the morning of Wednesday 29 December. River levels are expected to peak at Smarden and at Stile Bridge this evening but the river will remain high until Wednesday morning, 29 December. Property flooding is not expected. Further light rainfall is forecast tomorrow morning. We are monitoring the situation and our incident response staff are checking the watercourses in the area. Flooding could affect low lying land and roads again between Smarden and Staplehurst from 8am today, Tuesday 28 December. River levels are expected to peak in at Smarden this afternoon but river levels will remain high until Wednesday morning, 29 December. Property flooding is not expected. This Flood Alert remains in force as a result of heavy rain on Christmas Day morning allied to further rain expected on Boxing Day morning. The Beult at Smarden is expected to rise to a new peak around lunchtime on Boxing Day. The peaks at Stile Bridge near Staplehurst, and in the Hunton and Yalding areas are expected on Boxing Day evening. This message will be updated by 9:00am on 26/12/21, or as the situation changes.

River levels on the Upper River Beult have risen as a result of rainfall on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning. Flooding of roads and low lying land is expected from 8:00 am today, 25/12/21, in the Bethersden, Smarden and Headcorn areas. The peak levels in these locations will be seen between 8:00 am and 3:00pm today. The Hunton and Yalding areas may not be affected at this stage. The internal flooding of property is not expected.
We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff have been out in advance to check for blockages.
Further rainfall is expected overnight into Boxing Day and so this Flood Alert will probably be in force until at least Monday 27/12/21. This message will be updated by 5pm on 25/12/21, or as the situation changes.

River levels have risen as a result of Storm Barra. Flooding of roads and low lying land is expected between 5am and 8pm today, Wednesday 8th December 2021. We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads close to the river, particularly in the Staplehurst area.
Further light rainfall is forecast for tonight, Wednesday 8th December 2021. We expect river levels to remain high until 8pm on Wednesday 8th December 2021.
Our incident response staff are actively monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond if required.
Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.

If further rainfall occurs over the Beult catchment, river levels are likely to increase further and flooding of low lying land and roads will be possible, particularly around Bethersden, Pluckley, Smarden and Headcorn. The forecast is for heavy, localised rainfall to continue this week. Our incident response staff are actively monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond if required. Further storms are forecast in Kent from mid morning, but there is low confidence on the precise location given the unpredictable nature of thunderstorms. If further rainfall occurs over the Beult catchment, river levels are likely to increase further and flooding of low lying land and roads will be possible, particularly around Bethersden, Pluckley, Smarden and Headcorn.
We expect river levels to remain high throughout Monday 26 July. The forecast is for heavy, localised rainfall to continue this week.
