We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads along the River Beult and it’s tributaries around Smarden and Staplehurst from 5pm today, 14 November. We expect river levels to peak in the Smarden area on Wednesday morning. Rainfall has now cleared the area and it is expected to be dry until Thursday morning. The Flood Alert for the Upper River Beult remains in force following a day of heavy rainfall on Saturday 4 November. Water levels are now receding slowly around Bethersden and Smarden following their peak earlier on Sunday 5 November. The river is running level at Headcorn but is still rising slightly at Stile Bridge where the peak will be observed on Sunday evening. An escalation to Flood Warning conditions is not expected. Any showers on Sunday evening should die out by midnight and drier weather is expected on Monday and Tuesday. This Flood Alert will be reviewed on Monday 6 November with a view to removal.

This Flood Alert remains in force for the Upper River Beult, and is likely to remain in force until Tuesday 20 December or Wednesday 21 December. Levels remain high following rainfall earlier on Monday and further rain is forecast Monday night into Tuesday. Levels show signs of peaking at Bethersden and Smarden, but will continue to rise gradually at Stile Bridge, near Staplehurst, into the evening. In all locations, levels could rise yet further on Tuesday morning as a result of any additional rainfall on Monday night.
