River levels are forecast to rise at the Kirkby river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property/roads and farmland is possible from 17:00 today to low lying land and roads in the Plex Moss, Downholland Moss, Formby, Great Altcar, Maghull, Kirkby and Fazakerley areas. High river levels are possible on the River Alt, Sandy Brook, Fine Janes Brook, Cheshire Lines Brook, Sudell Brook, Whinney Brook, Simonswood Brook, Croxteth Brook, Kirkby Brook and their tributaries.
Further rainfall is forecast over the weekend.
We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences.

Localised thunderstorms are expected during the early hours of Sunday and to continue during the day. Flooding is possible but there is low confidence given the unpredictable nature of thunderstorms. Areas at risk are low lying land and roads in the Plex Moss, Downholland Moss, Formby, Great Altcar, Maghull, Kirkby and Fazakerley areas. High river levels are possible on the River Alt, Sandy Brook, Fine Janes Brook, Cheshire Lines Brook, Sudell Brook, Whinney Brook, Simonswood Brook, Croxteth Brook, Kirkby Brook and their tributaries.

Consequently, flooding of property/roads and farmland is possible from 18:00 today (16/08/19), peaking at approximately 22:00 and dropping by 13:00 on Saturday (17/08/19). Low lying land and roads in the Plex Moss, Downholland Moss, Formby, Great Altcar, Maghull, Kirkby and Fazakerley areas. High river levels are possible on the River Alt, Sandy Brook, Fine Janes Brook, Cheshire Lines Brook, Sudell Brook, Whinney Brook, Simonswood Brook, Croxteth Brook, Kirkby Brook and their tributaries.
Further heavy rainfall is forecast over the next 6 hours before clearing away to the east.
