Flood Alert issued on 28 Jul 2019 21:37
River Douglas
River levels are forecast to rise at the A2 Wigan river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding could occur between 21:00 on 28/07/19 and 06:00 on 29/07/19, but there is low confidence given the unpredictable nature of the rainfall. Low lying land and roads in Horwich, Adlington, Wigan, Appley Bridge and Skelmersdale are at risk. High river levels are possible on the River Douglas, Pearl Brook, River Tawd, Eller Brook and their tributaries. We expect river levels to rise until 01:00 on 29/07/19. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. This message will be updated tomorrow morning, 29/07/19, or as the situation changes.
