River Witham
Recent heavy rain has fallen on already saturated ground along the River Witham catchment. Levels have reached record highs in places and we are seeing areas of overtopping and seepage through flood banks. Forecast for today, Monday 8th February is for snow, but river levels will continue to remain very high, as water makes its way downstream. There remains the risk of potential breach in this flood warning area, due to continued loading of flood banks and scouring from overtopping. We are already seeing flooding of low lying land and roads along the River Witham, from Woodhall Spa to Chapel Hill. Low lying properties near the river are most at risk. Stay safe and be aware of your surroundings and avoid contact with flood water. Our staff are out in the area to check the flood defences, clear blockages, and assist the Emergency Services and Council.
