River levels have now peaked and are beginning to fall on the river Esk, following heavy rainfall. Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the river Esk, with low lying land expected to be most affected, particularly around the river Esk from Briggswath (Sleights Bridge) downstream to A171 at Whitby. The risk of flooding of properties remains until levels drop further. Friday and Saturday are expected to be largely dry, but levels will remain high into the weekend. We will continue to monitor levels closely. Monitor local water levels and weather conditions. You should avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. River levels are expected to remain high overnight, with levels expected to peak at Briggswath around 1am on Friday morning 18/11/2022. The risk of flooding of properties is possible. This flood warning has been issued due to heavy rainfall throughout Tuesday. River levels on the Esk are rising and are expecting to reach 2.1m at Briggswath at 02:15 Wednesday morning, 06/10/21. Levels at Briggswath are forecast to peak between 2.4m and 2.7m at around 03:30, before falling through daylight hours on Wednesday.
