River levels remain high as a result of heavy rain. Areas most at risk are low lying land and roads. The river level at Maunby is 3.9m on the afternoon of Wednesday 26/08/2020 and has started to fall slowly. River levels are beginning to peak at Kirby Wiske and Crakehill and should start to fall slowly overnight. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are liaising with emergency services and checking defences. Please do not walk or drive through flood waters and plan routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. This message will be updated on the evening of Wednesday 26/08/2020, or as the situation changes.

River levels are forecast to rise as a result of heavy rainfall. Areas most at risk are low lying land and roads. The River level at Maunby has risen to 4m on the morning of Wednesday 26/08/2020. Little further rise is expected at Maunby, but levels at Kirby Wiske and Crakehill will continue to rise steadily through today before peaking in the late afternoon or evening. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are liaising with emergency services and checking defences. Please do not walk or drive through flood waters and plan routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. This flood alert has been issued in response to heavy rainfall overnight from Friday into Saturday in the upper catchment. River levels upstream of Catterick have responded overnight and continue to fluctuate. In the area of Maunby, river levels are now starting to respond gradually. Further rainfall is expected throughout Saturday and river levels will remain responsive, rising and falling in response to multiple bands of rainfall in the upper catchment. Upland areas are expected to see the highest rainfall totals over the weekend, but there may be local heavy rain which is not restricted to higher ground. Eastern or lowland areas may still be affected by fluctuating river levels over the weekend. Flood Warnings may still be required on Saturday and we will continue to monitor the situation and update this message accordingly.

This alert remains in force due to heavy rainfall on Wednesday and overnight in the Yorkshire Dales. The current level at Maunby is 5.2m, has peaked, and is now falling. The current level at Kirby Wiske is 3.2m and this is expected to peak in the early hours of Friday morning below 3.3m. The current level at Crakehill is 4.1m and rising gradually. There remains uncertainty in the forecast peak at Crakehill, and we will update this message as confidence improves in the forecast peak level and timing. At this time, a peak forecast level at Crakehill of 4.2m to 4.6m is possible on Friday morning. No significant further rainfall is expected, but we will continue to monitor the situation and will update this message if forecasts change.

This alert has been issued due to heavy rainfall on Wednesday in the Yorkshire Dales. The rain is expected to continue into the night and levels will start to rise overnight on the lower River Swale. The current level at Kirby Wiske is 1.3m and this could rise to 2m by Thursday morning. The current level at Crakehill is 1.7m and this could rise to 2m by morning. Levels will begin to rise further downstream on the River Swale throughout Thursday morning however this is not expected to be significant.
