This Flood Alert is for coastal flooding, Storm Barra is expected to affect the area later on Tuesday and Wednesday and this brings with it the threat of very strong south easterly winds.
Coastal flooding issues are likely due to a combination of high astronomical tides, waves and a small storm related surge in water levels. On Wednesday and Thursday, there is a risk of coastal flooding due to a combination of high tides, surge and wave action, resulting in high water levels and some wave overtopping along the Moray Firth coastline. Low-lying properties, roads, and railways that are exposed to the coast are at risk at times of high tide during this period, with the first notable high tide expected around 13:30 on Wednesday but the highest tide expected at 14:00 on Thursday
