River levels had risen yesterday after heavy rain but peaked on the morning of Monday the 16th at the Bradford on Avon river gauge and are now falling. Consequently, the risk of flooding is now reducing. We believe the likelihood of flooding for low lying land and roads between Melksham and Bathford has also reduced. The flood gates at Holt Road should not need to be closed. Minimal rainfall is forecast throughout Tuesday the 17th so the situation should not deteriorate. We are closely monitoring the situation. River levels have risen at the Bradford on Avon river gauge as a result of saturated ground and heavy rainfall today, Sunday the 15th. Consequently, the risk of flooding has increased throughout the evening of Sunday and into Monday. We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads between Melksham and Bathford. The flood gates at Holt Road may need to be closed should the river levels continue rising, however no further rainfall is forecast overnight on Sunday the 15th and throughout Monday the 16th so the situation should not deteriorate. River levels continue to fall at the Bradford on Avon river gauge. Consequently, the risk of flooding has reduced. A band of rainfall is forecast to pass over the area on Friday morning. Although river levels are now just underneath the flood alert threshold they are expected to rise slightly in response to the rainfall, bringing them back above the threshold. The likelihood for flooding for Holt Road at Staverton and low lying land and roads between Melksham and Bathford has reduced. We are closely monitoring the situation. Mid Bristol Avon Flood Alert is active on Tuesday the 05/11/2019. While river levels are now slowly falling on the River Avon at Bradford on Avon and on the Semington Brook gauge they are all still above the Alert criteria. We are not expecting any significant rain on Tuesday the 05/11/10 but the forecast does show rain is expected on Wednesday and river levels are likely to increase again. Consequently, the risk of flooding remains and this Alert is likely to remain active until Wednesday (06/11/2019). We believe there is a possibility of flooding for Holt Road at Staverton. The Environment Agency Incident team are monitoring the weather and the river levels. Please take photographs of any flood damage and contact your insurance company if you've been flooded. The Mid Bristol Avon Flood Alert is active. As a result of an extensive wet weather period over recent weeks the River Avon is beginning to rise to Flood Alert status and is expected to meet criteria on the evening of the 2nd November 2019. A further 10-20 mm of rain is expected today on the 2nd November over a widespread area in Somerset and Wiltshire. The forecast is currently unclear where this rain will fall on the Avon catchment. River levels on the River Avon at Great Somerford, River Avon at Bradford on Avon, River Avon at Bathford and Semington Brook at Semington are rising and are expected to continue in this manner into next week. While we are currently not expecting any flood warnings to be issued flooding is possible at Holt Road in Staverton. We will continue to monitor the situation and will provide an update tomorrow morning.

No further rainfall is forecast today on 16/10/2019 but further showers with a possibility of some heavy showers, is forecast on Thursday 17/10/2019. Rivers may show some response to the rainfall. The river catchments have now reached saturation and some slow responding rivers across the Mid Bristol Avon are still slowly rising in response to the rainfall we have had over the last few days. Some rivers across the catchment are beginning to fall though river levels remain high. The flood alert will remain in place as there is further rain forecast moving across from the west this evening 15/10/19 into early Wednesday morning 16/10/19 and so rivers in the area may start to rise again This rain will be heaviest over south-west-facing upslopes, with only small rainfall totals expected elsewhere. The Environment Agency Incident team are monitoring the weather and river levels and we will keep this flood alert up to date as the weather situation changes.

The river catchments have now reached saturation and some slow responding rivers across the Mid Bristol Avon are still slowly rising in response to the rainfall we have had over the weekend. Some rivers across the catchment are beginning to fall. Further band of rain with some intense downpours are forecast this afternoon on Monday 14/10/.2019 and into Tuesday. This may cause the river to rise again in response to the rainfall. There is some uncertainty as to the location of the heavy downpours but these are forecast to move gradually northwards overnight. No properties are forecast to flood but there may be some low lying land and roads that could be affected. Please keep upto date with your local weather and stay clear of fast moving rivers. The Environment Agency are monitoring trash screens and sluices using webcams to ensure they are free from debris. We will keep this message updated as the weather forecast or situation changes.

River levels are rising in response to rainfall we have received over the past 24 hours. Less rain is forecast overnight on Sunday 13/10/2019 but there is further rain forecast for Monday 14/10/2019 which may be heavy at times. There is a possibility that some properties are at risk of flooding over the next few days but we are monitoring the levels closely and will ensure that we keep this message upto date as the weather changes. No properties are forecast to flood tonight but significant rainfall is forecast for Monday 14/10/2019 and Tuesday 15/10/2019 which could result in river levels rising higher. Thursday 7th February is set to be largely dry through the day with the odd shower, but further rainfall is forecast to be steady throughout Friday 8th and in to Saturday 9th. River levels on the River Avon at Great Somerford, River Avon at Bradford on Avon, River Avon at Bathford and Semington Brook at Semington are currently falling, but are expected to rise in response to the rainfall on Friday. This alert is remaining in place as despite falling river levels, the River Avon at Bradford on Avon remains high. The majority of Sunday will be dry until later on in the afternoon. A band of heavy and persistent rain will move across the area overnight Sunday and into Monday. The most intense rainfall will be between 23:00 and 09:00. River levels are generally stable however, as the rain passes through, this will lead to a rise in all river levels in the area therefore we are issuing all the Flood Alerts for the Bristol Avon area. There is an outside possibility of a couple of flood warnings being issued overnight but due to the uncertainty, we will not know the exact location of these until the rain passes through. We will be carrying out routine checks around the Bristol Avon area to ensure that the additional water will be able to travel through the system as expected. These are not expected to result in flood warnings being issued only flood alerts but we will have a better appreciation tomorrow and will provide an update again then.
