This Warning is still in force today (15/11/2019) due to high river levels from the recent rainfall overnight. River levels remain high but are expected to fall through this evening.
No further significant rainfall is expected over today and tomorrow. However, there is potential for a further band of rain to move across South Yorkshire on Sunday (17/11/2019). We are monitoring this situation closely and we continue to support the coordinated multi‐agency response and our incident room is open 24/7.
Please avoid contact with floodwater and plan journeys to avoid low-lying roads. River Don
A band of rain has now moved across South Yorkshire with scattered showers forecast during the morning of Friday 15th November. The River Don has risen in response to the rain and is forecast to peak at around 09:00, although levels are not expected to result in further overtopping of rivers banks and defences. The Leeds incident room remains open and we will be closely monitoring the situation and the need to maintain this flood warning. A 5 day flood forecast can be seen on the GOV.UK website. Our staff have deployed pumps, people and equipment. Please plan your journey to avoid low lying roads which may be affected. River levels in the Lower Don have fallen through today. Rain is falling across the South Yorkshire catchment and is forecast to continue until approximately 22:00 this evening, Thursday 14/11/2019, this will be followed by showers overnight into tomorrow, Friday 15/11/2019. There is reduced floodplain capacity and given the wet ground conditions, we expect the River Don and its main inflows to rise later today and into 15 November although levels are not currently forecast to result in further overtopping of rivers banks and defences. This warning remains in force. The Lower River Don levels have dropped however washlands in the lower catchments are still in operation. A further band of rain is expected to move across South Yorkshire from the afternoon / overnight on the 14th of November. Given the wet ground conditions, we expect local rivers to respond, however forecast rainfall is not expected to reach similar totals to those seen on the 7th and 8th of November. River levels have risen as a result of the persistent rainfall yesterday (07/11/2019) and throughout the night. Consequently, the risk of flooding of property and roads across Doncaster remains. Further showers are forecast over the next 24 hours however we do not expect this rainfall to cause any further impacts to the river levels and river levels are slowly falling.
