Tides will be at their highest between 17:00 and 19:30 today, 13/02/2020, however flooding may be possible due to waver overtopping for two to four hours either side of the high tide. Areas most at risk include Whitley Sands Café and Promenade. We are closely monitoring the situation. Tides will be at their highest between 03:00 and 06:00 tomorrow morning (Monday 10th February). Areas most at risk are Properties including Whitley Sands Refreshment Kiosk, Robinson Crusoe's Café at Tynemouth Longsands, Tynemouth Sailing Club and the area at Cullercoats Bay around the Lifeboat Station and the Dove Marine Laboratory . Flooding to properties, roads and farmland is expected at these times, however conditions may apply two to four hours either side of the high tide. Areas most at risk are beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads. Please be careful along the coast and stay away from large waves as they are dangerous. The area most at risk is low lying land around the Whitley bay refreshment kiosk. Adverse coastal conditions are expected to continue into next week and we might reissue this Alert on Tuesday morning for further high tides. We are closely monitoring the situation. The North East is currently experiencing relatively high tides and for the Thursday evening high tide we will experience an approximate 0.7m surge due to the Storm Caroline low pressure system. This warning has been issued due to the risk of wave overtopping affecting the lifeboat station and marine lab at Cullercoats. Waves may cause problems between 17:30 and 20:00 on Thursday 7/12/17. We will continue to monitor the situation and reissue this warning if required. Subsequent tides into the weekend are expected to pose less risk. Extreme care should be taken close to exposed coastal locations due to the risk of crashing waves.

This Flood Warning is being issued as a precaution. We are currently in a period of high spring tides. Strong onshore winds, associated with today’s unsettled weather conditions, are expected to combine with tomorrow morning’s high tide (Monday 24th July) to bring the possibility of some minor wave overtopping and windblown sea spray at Whitley Sands Cafe between approximately 4.30am and 6.00am. Properties at this location may be affected by flooding between these times. The public are advised to avoid the seafront at the Whitley Sands Cafe between these times as conditions may be dangerous.
