This Flood Warning has been issued due a combination of high spring tides and a storm surge following Storm Lilian moving across the North East.
The high tide time is forecast at 06:15 on 23/08/2024, however conditions may apply two to four hours either side of the high tide.
Flooding is expected at properties at Fish Market, Bell Street, Dolphin Quay, Union Quay, Clive Street, Duke Street, Liddell Street, Corporation Quay, South Shields Ferry Landing, Wapping Street, Tyne Dock, Albert Edward Dock, Tyne Foyboatmen Association and Howdon Pans.
After the high tide tomorrow morning‚ the weather is more settled and no further flood warnings are expected for following tides on Friday and Saturday.
We are closely monitoring the situation. Please stay away from beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as the expected large waves and sea spray will be dangerous. Start acting on your flood plan if you have one.

Waves are forecast to overtop coastal defences at Properties at Fish Market, Bell Street, Dolphin Quay, Union Quay, Clive Street, Duke Street, Liddell Street, Corporation Quay, South Shields Ferry Landing, Wapping Street, Tyne Dock, Albert Edward Dock, Tyne Foyboatmen Association and Howdon Pans. Weather conditions are expected to produce large offshore waves.

This flood warning remains in force. Large and powerful waves are still possible due to strong winds of Storm Barra which is passing over the region. The risk of flooding and hazardous conditions at beaches, promenades and coastal footpaths remains but will ease through the night into the morning of Wednesday 8th Dec. Areas most at risk are North Shields Western Quay Prom. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences and liaising with emergency services. Large and powerful waves are expected to overtop sea defences as a result of Storm Barra. Consequently, flooding is expected at North Shields Western Quay Prom for the duration of the strong winds, between 16:00 and 18:15 on Tuesday, 07/12/21. High winds and coastal conditions are expected to continue throughout the day and afternoon, and will start to ease during Tuesday evening, 07/12/21.
We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences and liaising with emergency services.

Waves are forecast to overtop sea defences with sea spray expected on the Tyne Estuary at North Shields, South Shields and Howdon Pans as a result of high spring tides and strong winds. Tides will be at their highest between 16:45 and 18:30 today, 13/01/2020. Flooding to properties, roads and farmland is possible at these times, however conditions may apply two to four hours either side of the high tide. The area most at risk is North Shields Western Quay Promenade.
Large waves and spray are likely so take care near coastal paths and promenades. Do not drive through flood water or large waves. We are closely monitoring the situation.
