River levels have now started to fall following yesterday's heavy and persistent rainfall. Although wintery showers associated with Storm Darcy are expected throughout today, 07/02/2021, until midnight tonight, river levels are not expected to rise significantly. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please remain vigilant as catchments remain very wet. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. Areas most at risk are properties along Rufford Street, Moorhouse Avenue, Alverthorpe Road, Henry Street, Elder Avenue and the Westgate at the Magdalene Chapel. Further rainfall is forecast into the evening, but is expected to peter out overnight. We expect river levels to remain high until tomorrow.
