River levels are rising at the Hammoon river gauge as a result of persistent rainfall. Consequently, the risk of flooding to roads and farmland remains. Areas most at risk are tributaries between Gillingham and Sturminster Newton. Further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours and we expect river levels to remain high over the next few days. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers which may be flooded and refer to local authority website for local road closures. Today, Friday 06/03/20 is forecast to be dry but further rain is forecast over the weekend with Sunday and Monday seeing heavier rainfall. This will maintain the current high river levels and we could see levels rise further in response to the rainfall.
River levels can rise very quickly in response to heavy rainfall.

Storm Dennis is forecast to bring heavy rainfall over the weekend and river levels are expected to rise further in response to this rainfall. Avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses. We are closely monitoring the situation and will update this message as the situation changes.
