A band of locally heavy frontal rain has passed over the area today with drier conditions following with the potential for showers. Further frontal rain is expected from late Wednesday into Thursday. River levels on the Tetbury Avon at Brokenborough, Sherston Avon at Fosseway, River Avon at Great Somerford and Dauntsey Brook at Dauntsey are currently rising in response to the rainfall that has already fallen. Levels are expected to peak overnight and begin falling by Wednesday morning. Flooding of lying land and some roads is possible but property flooding is not currently expected. Flooding is expected to affect the road at Reybridge. Our operational teams have been on the ground today clearing screens and ensuring all of our structures are fully operational. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.

Sunday the 10th has seen much drier weather, particularly in the afternoon. The forecast is set to be largely dry for the first half of next week so no further issues are expected. Although catchments are saturated, river levels should steadily fall with no rainfall topping them up. River levels on the Tetbury Avon at Brokenborough, the River Avon at Great Somerford and the Sherston Avon at Fosseway have all marginally risen today after the rainfall on Saturday night and into the early hours of Sunday. With no further persistent rainfall forecast in the next few days, river levels will begin to drop again. The Dauntsey Brook at Dauntsey peaked at lunchtime on Sunday and is now falling. This message will be updated on Monday morning unless the situation notably changes before then.

Saturday the 9th was a mix of blustery showers, heavy at times, and dry spells. This continued overnight into Sunday morning. With catchments already saturated this rain has helped keep river levels fairly high. The afternoon of Sunday the 10th will see much drier weather. Monday is also forecast to be a largely dry day. River levels on the Tetbury Avon at Brokenborough and the River Avon at Great Somerford have fallen from their peak levels, but remain at a much higher base level than before the rainfall on Friday. The Dauntsey Brook at Dauntsey has started to rise again in the early hours of Sunday but looks to be peaking. The Sherston Avon at Fosseway has shown a slight rise overnight and remains high. This message will be updated on Sunday evening unless the situation notably changes before then.

Saturday the 9th is set to be a mix of blustery showers and clear spells with a similar feel on Sunday the 10th and although river levels remain high, they are starting to fall back down with the improved weather situation. The beginning of next week is forecast to be largely dry so no further impacts are expected. River levels on the Tetbury Avon at Brokenborough, Sherston Avon at Fosseway, River Avon at Great Somerford and Dauntsey Brook at Dauntsey have all peaked and are now falling. Steady rainfall has been falling on the catchment throughout Friday the 8th with the heaviest falling around lunchtime. Friday evening will be a mix of blustery showers and clear spells. Saturday the 9th will also be a mix of showers and clear spells. River levels on the Tetbury Avon at Brokenborough, Sherston Avon at Fosseway, River Avon at Great Somerford and Dauntsey Brook at Dauntsey are all rising in response to today’s rainfall. We are clearing watercourses and operating defences where required and will update this message on Saturday morning unless the situation notably changes before then.

Levels are forecast to rise this afternoon reaching Flood Alert level in the early morning of Friday and peaking a few hours later. Levels on the River Avon at Great Somerford are currently falling and just below Flood Alert threshold but are also to react to the forecast rainfall. Flood Alert threshold is expected to be reached overnight and peak in the morning of Friday. Flooding of low lying land and roads is possible but property flooding is not currently expected. Although the smaller rivers have now largely peaked, some rivers continue to see a reaction to the rain that has already fallen as it works its way through the system. Low lying land and some roads may be affected but overall the situation is improving. Thursday may see some scattered showers throughout the day. River levels on the Tetbury Avon at Brokenborough peaked at 1am on 19/12/18 and are slowly falling but remain high. River levels on the Dauntsey Brook at Dauntsey peaked at 1am on 19/12/18 and are falling. Levels on the Sherston Avon at Fosseway peaked at 3am on 19/12/18 and are slowly falling but remain high. Levels on the River Avon at Great Somerford peaked at 13:45 on 19/12/18 and are slowly beginning to fall. Teams have been out on the ground clearing trash screens where required. Heavy rain showers will be continuing throughout Tuesday 10th April. The overnight rain has almost come to an end. Further thundery showers, heavy at times, will be developing this afternoon and into the evening. Catchments are wet and responsive. The alert will remain in force as we monitor the response to these potentially heavy showers. Wednesday 11th April is forecast to start dry but rain showers will move through in the afternoon. River levels on the Tetbury Avon at Brokenborough, Sherston Avon at Fosseway, River Avon at Great Somerford and the Dauntsey Brook at Dauntsey have all seen a stready rise as they respond to the overnight rainfall.

Widespread rain and localised heavy showers have occurred throughout Monday 9th April. Further showers are forecast during Tuesday 10th April. With the ground being near saturated localised minor surface water flooding impacts are probable over Monday night and in to tomorrow. River levels on the Tetbury Avon at Brokenborough, Sherston Avon at Fosseway and River Avon at Great Somerford are all currently stable, but are expected to rise in response to the rainfall. The Dauntsey Brook at Dauntsey is reacting to the rainfall and started to rise at 14:00 BST.

Further rain is forecast for Sunday but there is some uncertainty on the exact locations. The alert remains in force as catchments are wet and responsive. River levels on the Tetbury Avon at Brokenborough, Sherston Avon at Fosseway, River Avon at Great Somerford and the Dauntsey Brook at Dauntsey are all steadily falling but could see some response to the rainfall this morning.

Upto 20 millimetres of rainfall has fallen over the area during the night. The rivers continue to rise in response to the rainfall as it drains through the catchment and into the rivers. Further showers are forecast throughout Monday but with smallerl amounts of rainfall than in previous days. The rivers are forecast to peak later today but we are actively monitoring the river levels and will keep this information updated.

The majority of Sunday will be dry until later on in the afternoon. A band of heavy and persistent rain will move across the area overnight Sunday and into Monday. The most intense rainfall will be between 23:00 and 09:00. River levels are generally stable however, as the rain passes through, this will lead to a rise in all river levels in the area therefore we are issuing all the Flood Alerts for the Bristol Avon area. There is an outside possibility of a couple of flood warnings being issued overnight but due to the uncertainty, we will not know the exact location of these until the rain passes through. We will be carrying out routine checks around the Bristol Avon area to ensure that the additional water will be able to travel through the system as expected. This message will be updated again Monday morning once the latest weather forecasts and models have been run and assessed.

The Upper Bristol Avon flood alert is in force based on the forecast rainfall expected for this afternoon and this evening (14th March 2018). The Met Office is forecasting between 10-20 mm today, which will result in an increase in river levels across the upper River Avon catchment throughout Thursday morning (15th March 2018). River levels on the Tetbury Avon at Brokenborough, Sherston Avon at Fosseway, River Avon at Great Somerford and Dauntsey Brook at Dauntsey are currently stable but forecast to rise throughout Thursday morning. The Upper Bristol Avon Flood Alert remains in force. Today’s light showers continue to maintain river levels within the upper part of the River Avon catchment. The Met office is forecasting 5 to 10 mm of rain on Monday, which will cause a rise in river levels, with an peak expected in the early hours of Tuesday. These are not expected to result in flood warnings being issued only flood alerts but we will have a better appreciation tomorrow and will provide an update again then.
