A FLOOD WARNING has been issued for Brechin. After the heavy rain today, the South Esk water levels have risen and reached a level close to the sand bags protecting River Street (those that fill the gap in the flood defences). Levels are not forecast to overtop the sand bags, but will remain high overnight and there is a slight risk of flooding of River Street if there is seepage through the sand bags. There is a risk of flooding to areas and properties around River Street. River levels will rise overnight and are expected to peak tomorrow mid-morning but at lower levels than last week. This has the potential to result in surface water and river flooding in the same areas as last week ? though rivers are not expected to reach the same levels. Residual impacts from Storm Babet may mean riverside areas will flood again, including in Brechin. An updated SEVERE FLOOD WARNING has been issued for Brechin. There is a danger to life. If you are in an affected area, are in danger and need assistance, call emergency responders. Brechin experienced extensive flooding today with levels having reached the highest on record. River levels on the South Esk are dropping on Friday evening. However, further rainfall is expected overnight on Friday into Saturday morning. Another red weather warning for rain is in place by the Met Office. We expect the South Esk to rise again during Saturday morning. Current forecasts indicate that it may peak on Saturday afternoon at a lower level than the flood defences. The ground is saturated, and the river may respond more quickly than usual. The properties in and around Brechin will remain at risk tomorrow. Stay away from flood water and do not take unnecessary risks. Please follow the advice of the emergency services and first responders on the ground. Rest centres have been opened at Forfar Community centre, Brechin Community Campus and Montrose Centre.
