An updated FLOOD ALERT has been issued for Caithness and Sutherland. Due to a combination of strong winds and large waves, there is a risk of flooding from spray and wave overtopping. The greatest risk is around the time of high water on Saturday around 1545 and 0515 on Sunday (time for Wick). Areas particularly at risk are areas exposed to the south-east and south-south-east. A FLOOD ALERT has been issued for Caithness and Sutherland. This Flood Alert is for coastal flooding. Communities on the east of the Caithness and Sutherland coast are expected to experience isolated flooding issues during periods of high tide around Friday midnight and early Saturday afternoon. High waves along with strong south easterly winds have the potential to cause some spray and wave overtopping in these areas. Current forecasts indicate that waves will be slightly higher around midnight on Friday than on Saturday. A FLOOD ALERT has been issued for Caithness and Sutherland. This Flood Alert is for coastal flooding. On Friday, high tides are expected to affect the area due to a storm surge and large waves associated with Storm Callum. The greatest risk is expected late on Friday evening with high tide expected to peak from 9pm onwards at Kinlochbervie. Localised flooding to low-lying land and roads is likely. Spray and wave overtopping along coastal roads and sea fronts is also expected. SEPA will continue to monitor the situation and further updates will appear here if the situation changes. An updated FLOOD ALERT has been issued for Caithness and Sutherland. Heavy thundery downpours may affect the area during Saturday. It is currently not possible to define exactly what areas will be affected and some areas will miss the worst of the heavy showers and thunderstorms. However where these thunderstorms do occur they are likely to bring torrential rain. People should be aware and prepared to act. The period of greatest risk is Saturday afternoon and evening. If these showers coincide with built-up areas there is a risk of surface water flooding to properties and roads, and disruption to infrastructure and travel. There is also a risk of flooding to properties and roads from smaller rivers and watercourses if the heavy downpours occur over small urban or fast responding catchments.
