River and lake levels in the area will remain high due to expected rainfall throughout the morning, 27/8/24. A band of heavy rain is expected to cross Cumbria throughout the morning, bringing up to approx. 65mm rain in the upland area. This will be followed by a period of showers, clearing by this evening. Lake levels are currently falling but are expected to rise again from lunchtime today. It is expected that this Flood Alert will remain in force until at least the middle of the week. Rivers in the area may also show some response and start rising from mid morning. We are not currently expecting to issue any further flood warnings. River levels on the Rivers Brathay, Rothay, Winster are now stable following rainfall earlier this week, though levels on Wiindermere and the River Leven remain high today, Friday 23/02/2024, albeit now beginning to recede slowly. A mix of patchy cloud, clear or sunny spells and scattered showers throughout today. These showers falling as snow over higher ground and heavy at times. Some showers on Saturday but generally an improving situation over the weekend with low rainfall totals. Further flooding is unlikely but may continue to affect low lying areas around Newby Bridge, Backbarrow, and the shores of Windermere today.
