Rainfall overnight and through the morning mean that river and lake levels remain above Flood Alert levels, especially along the lake shore. We currently forecast that Derwent Water will peak at 1.97m at the Lodore gauge, around 18:00 on Wednesday evening. With very minimal rainfall forecast for the remainder of the week, river and lake levels will steadily fall from Wednesday evening. The Environment Agency are monitoring the situation and will issue a further update to this message on Thursday morning.

Over the last 12 hours we have seen heavy rainfall in the River Derwent area. This has meant that the river and lake levels in Derwent Water have been rising. The main areas of concern are around Derwent Water, where levels suggest that there will be flooding to low lying land and roads close to the lake today, Thursday 7th December. We expect the river and lake to remain high throughout today though no flooding to properties is forecast and at this stage we do not expect to issue warnings. There is little rain forecast for the rest of today, and the lake level is forecast to peak at around 4pm. Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions. We are constantly monitoring river levels and have staff in the area checking for, and clearing blockages in this location. This message will be updated this afternoon or earlier if the situation changes.

Heavy and persistent rain is expected across parts of northern England on Wednesday before gradually easing during Wednesday night. Many places will see 25 to 50 mm of rain, with around 100 mm possible over higher ground. Heavy rain will gradually clear eastwards during Wednesday night. There remains some uncertainty with regards to the exact location of the heaviest rain. Heavy rain will be accompanied by strong winds across many parts of the County. Rivers in Cumbria are currently very responsive to rainfall and river levels have risen as a result of rainfall last night. Levels have risen slightly through today, but will rise again this evening as further rain falls ahead of the main front tomorrow. River response expected from tomorrow morning with main impacts expected tomorrow afternoon and into the evening.

Over the last 12 hours we have seen heavy rainfall in the River Derwent area. This has meant that the lake level in Derwent Water has been rising. The main areas of concern are around Derwent Water, where levels suggest that there will be flooding to low lying land and roads close to the lake today, Sunday 22nd October. We expect the river and lake to remain high throughout today though no flooding to properties is forecast and at this stage we do not expect to issue warnings. There is very little rain forecast for the rest of today, and the lake level is forecast to peak at around midday. Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions.
