A band of heavy rain is expected to cross Cumbria throughout this morning, Tuesday 27/08/2024, bringing up to approx. 65mm rain in the upland area. This will be followed by a period of showers, clearing by this evening. Rivers in the area are expected to show some response and start rising from mid morning. We are not currently expecting to issue any flood warnings.

River levels are forecast to rise at the Egremont river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Areas affected will be low lying land and roads in the Harrington, Distington, Whitehaven, Ennerdale Bridge, Cleator Moor, Cleator, Egremont, Beckermet, Braystones, Calder Bridge, Gosforth, Seascale, Wasdale, Holmrook, Eskdale and Bootle areas. High river levels are possible on the River Wyre, Distington Beck, Pow Beck, River Ehen, River Keekle, Skirting Beck, Whangs Beck, Kirk Beck, Black Beck, River Calder, River Bleng, River Irt, River Mite, River Esk, River Annas and their tributaries. Heavy rain will affect the catchment from 20:00 hrs this evening, 07/12/2019, until the early hours of tomorrow, 08/12/2019. We expect river levels to peak at approximately 03:15 hrs tomorrow, 08/12/2019.
