Flooding is possible for high tides on Friday the 21st of August. High Spring tides coinciding with strong winds and large waves are expected to cause flooding on Friday evening. High water at Ilfracombe is at 20:45. Flooding is possible 2 hours either side of high tide. Times of high water will vary along the coast. Tide levels are rising towards spring tides which peak on Friday. Storm Ellen is forecast to bring force 6 to 7 south westerly winds and large waves which are expected to cause wave overtopping and sea spray in exposed locations. Standing water near the Esplanade, Riverside Road and Lynmouth Street is likely. Avoid low lying and exposed coastal areas. We will monitor the situation and will update on Saturday or earlier if the situation changes. The forecast high tide level at Ilfracombe is 5.31mAOD. This is 0.32 metres above the astronomical tide level.

Flooding is expected over the high tide on Friday morning, 21st August. High Spring tides, strong winds and large waves are expected to cause property flooding on Friday morning. Flooding of low lying or exposed locations is also possible on Thursday and Friday evenings. High water at Ilfracombe is 08:30 on Friday morning. Flooding is possible 2 hours either side of high tide. Times of high water will vary along the coast. Storm Ellen is forecast to bring force 8 south-westerly winds and large waves. Large waves and spray overtopping and localised standing water near the Esplanade, Riverside Road and Lynmouth Street is likely. People are advised to avoid exposed coastal areas. We will continue to monitor the situation and will update this information if the situation changes. Detailed tidal information for those who use it, the forecast high tide level at Ilfracombe is 5.32 mAOD. This is 0.57 metres above the astronomical tide level.

This may cause localised property flooding and standing water on roads. Tides and wave heights are forecast to be lower after tonight’s high tide. Strong force 6 westerly winds and offshore wave heights of around 4m are forecast to cause overtopping of sea defences. However conditions may apply two hours either side of the high tide. Expect tides to be around 550mm higher than predicted due to weather conditions. Large waves and spray are likely so take care near coastal paths and promenades. This may cause localised standing water on roads near The Esplanade, Riverside Road and Lynmouth Street. Do not drive through flood water or waves. Coastal conditions should ease for Thursday evening’s high tide, however we are continuing to monitor the situation and will issue updates if the situation changes. Gale force 6 south westerly winds are forecast to cause high levels along the coast, with potential for some spray on Lynmouth seafront and along tidal sections of the River Lyn between 6pm and 7.30pm. However conditions may apply two hours either side of the high tide. Take care near coastal paths and promenades. However, conditions may apply 2 hours either side of high tide. Weather conditions could make tides up to 12cm higher than predicted. Large waves and spray are likely and may cause localised standing water on roads near The Esplanade, Riverside Road and Lynmouth Street. Do not drive through flood water or waves.
