River levels remain high at the Hammoon river gauge as a result of the ground being saturated and reacting to recent rainfall. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible. We believe there is a possibility of flooding for tributaries between Sturminster Newton and Wimborne. Today, Friday 06/03/20 is forecast to be dry but further rain is forecast over the weekend with Sunday and Monday seeing heavier rainfall. This will maintain the current high river levels and we could see levels rise further in response to the rainfall. River levels can rise very quickly in response to heavy rainfall. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers which may be flooded and refer to local authority website for local road closures. River levels at the Hammoon and Blandford level gauges have risen following weekend rainfall. Levels are expected to remain high until the middle of next week. We will be monitoring the situation closely and will update this message tomorrow morning 18/02/20. Particular care should be taken on smaller roads close to rivers especially between Manston and Hammoon and around Fifehead Neville. Flood water can rise very quickly causing cars to float posing considerable risk to life. Environment Agency staff will be patrolling watercourses and clearing blockages where they occur.

River levels at the Hammoon and Blandford level gauges have risen overnight following earlier rainfall. The forecast is for a very wet weekend ahead and so levels are expected to remain high until the middle of next week. We will be monitoring the situation closely and will continue to update the Flood Warning Service at regular intervals during this period. Particular care should be taken on smaller roads close to rivers especially between Manston and Hammoon and around Fifehead Neville. Flood water can rise very quickly causing cars to float posing considerable risk to life. Environment Agency staff will be patrolling watercourses and clearing blockages where they occur.

Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected today and for the next few days. Persistent rainfall is forecast to continue until about 6:00 pm today, 18 December 2018. Property owners with flood protection equipment should consider installing it now.

Persistent rain throughout Sunday has caused increased levels in the River Stour from Sturminster Newton to Wimborne and rivers are expected to go out of bank. Minor roads and fields alongside the rivers are expected to flood. After a brief respite on Monday, the week ahead will continue to be wet and rivers will respond quickly as the ground is now saturated. Drivers are advised to exercise great care when using fords and roads near bridges.
