Flood Alert issued on 19 Dec 2018 12:59
River Yeo, River Cam, River Wriggle, Barwick Stream, West Coker Stream
This flood alert is likely to remain in place for some days as a result of the high water level at Sherborne Lake on the River Yeo. This is due to the significant rainfall yesterday in the upper catchment. Levels have now peaked and are steady however, there remains a risk of flooding to low lying land and roads downstream of the lake until levels return to normal. Forecast showers during the next few days could further increase lake levels however, significant impacts are not expected. We have teams actively checking the operation of rivers, debris screens, culverts, bridges and sluices. We will continue to monitor the rainfall forecasts closely and will update this message again tomorrow, Thursday 20/12/2018 unless there is significant change to the local flood risk.

Flood Alert issued on 18 Dec 2018 15:22

Flood Alert issued on 17 Dec 2018 14:45
River Yeo, River Cam, River Wriggle, Barwick Stream, West Coker Stream
This flood alert remains in place due to the water level in Sherborne Lake on the River Yeo, which continues to be above alert level after the weekend’s rain, although is slowly falling. The river levels elsewhere, on the River Cam, the River Wriggle, and the River Yeo at Pen Mill, are back down at normal levels for this time of year. Further heavy rain is forecast for tomorrow, Tuesday 18/12/2018, beginning early in the morning and lasting much of the day. This will likely cause the level at Sherborne Lake to stay above alert, and other rivers in the area will respond and rise again, possibly to alert level tomorrow morning and afternoon. We will continue to monitor the situation and update this message tomorrow.

Flood Alert issued on 16 Dec 2018 15:18
River Yeo, River Cam, River Wriggle, Barwick Stream, West Coker Stream
This flood alert remains in place due to the water level in Sherborne Lake on the River Yeo, which is above alert level after yesterday’s heavy rain. Being a wide body of water, the lake level tends to rise more slowly and stay above alert level for longer as it continues to gather yesterday’s rainwater from the wet soils. The levels elsewhere, on the River Cam, the River Wriggle, and the River Yeo at Pen Mill, have fallen well below alert level, although they remain a little higher than normal. A band of heavy showers is currently passing through and is forecast to continue until about 17:30 today, Sunday 16/12/2018. This is likely to cause the rivers to rise again, though not as much as yesterday. There may be a risk of some localised flooding of low lying land and roads later today. After a showery afternoon tomorrow, Monday, a further band of heavy rain is forecast for Tuesday, 18/12/2018. We will continue to monitor the situation and update this message tomorrow.
