River levels have risen on the River Yeo, including at Sherborne Lake, following rain yesterday, overnight and this morning. The River Wriggle and Cam are expected to rise over the next few hours. This is forecast to break up into heavy showers this afternoon. The weather forecast for the next few days is largely dry, with the occasional shower. The catchments are saturated however, and rivers will remain responsive to further rain. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our staff are checking defences and weed screens, bridges and culverts for blockages. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near watercourses and consider installing property flood resilience equipment if you have it. Flood Alert issued on 2 Mar 2024 09:15
River Yeo, River Cam, River Wriggle, Barwick Stream, West Coker Stream
Following yesterday’s rain, the level of the River Yeo at Sherborne Lake remains above the Flood Alert level. The overnight rain caused the River Cam to rise above Alert level at Weston Bampfylde. This has peaked and is starting to fall. Other rivers in the area also rose but not to the Alert level. The River Wriggle at Chetnole peaked overnight and is falling. Scattered, heavy showers are forecast today, Saturday, 02/03/2024, and into Sunday. The catchments are saturated, and local rivers will remain responsive to runoff and groundwater from the surrounding land. This may be enough to keep Sherborne Lake at Alert level, with a low level of flood risk to low-lying land and roads. We continue to monitor the weather and the Lake level, and will review the need for this Alert. Please avoid footpaths near watercourses, be aware of water levels and weather conditions and see the GOV.UK website for a 5 day flood forecast. You should avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. This message will be updated by 2:00 PM on Sunday, 03/03/2024, or as the situation changes.

The catchments are saturated, and local rivers will remain responsive to runoff and groundwater from the surrounding land. While this is not expected to cause widespread flooding impacts, it may be enough to keep Sherborne Lake at Alert level, with a low level of flood risk in the local area. Therefore, this Alert is issued as a precautionary measure. We continue to monitor the weather and the Lake level, and will review the need for this Alert. There may still be a low level of flood risk to low-lying land and roads. You should avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. This message will be updated by 2:00 PM on Saturday, 02/03/2024, or as the situation changes.

Water levels at Sherborne Lake remain just above Flood Alert threshold. Wednesday’s forecast is mostly dry with only a few brief spells of rainfall possible. More rainfall is forecast for Thursday. Catchments remain saturated and rivers will be very responsive to any further rain. Therefore, whilst other river levels are currently falling, this Alert remains in force based on Sherborne Lake level and the possibility that rivers in the area may rise moderately again in the next 24 to 48 hours. This may bring a low risk of flooding again to low lying land and roads. We do not anticipate flooding of properties, based on the current forecast. Our gangs are checking and clearing bridges, culverts and debris screens. This message will be updated tomorrow morning, Thursday 20/02/2020, or as the situation changes.
