Following the recent sustained rainfall the forecast for the next 5 days is for generally drier conditions. Localised showers are possible with a band of rainfall overnight Saturday and into Sunday morning being forecast. Ground conditions across the area are heavily saturated and all river levels have begun to recede slowly but steadily. River levels on the River Yeo at Sherborne Lake remain above the Flood Alert trigger threshold. Although the Flood Alert will remain in force throughout today and into tomorrow the risk of flooding to low lying land and roads downstream of the lake is very low.

The rainfall has passed out of the area and the current forecast has improved with minimal rainfall expected on Thursday and a reduced and less significant rainfall on Friday. This Flood Alert remains in force due to the high but now slowly falling water level in the River Yeo at Sherborne Lake. River levels on River Yeo at Pen Mill, River Wriggle at Chetnole, the River Cam at Weston Bampfylde and Barwick Stream at Stoford are all falling.

The rainfall has generally passed out of the area. Further showers, heavy at times, are possible overnight on Thursday and into Friday morning. This Flood Alert remains in force due to the high and rising water level in the River Yeo at Sherborne Lake. River levels on River Yeo at Pen Mill are rising but levels on the River Wriggle at Chetnole, the River Cam at Weston Bampfylde and Barwick Stream at Stoford have all peaked and are now falling.

The rain has moved out of the area and drier weather is forecast although there is the possibility of some isolated further showers during Tuesday evening. This Flood Alert remains in force due to the level in the River Yeo at Sherborne Lake which remains high and is stable. River levels on River Yeo at Pen Mill, River Wriggle at Chetnole, River Cam at Weston Bampfylde and Barwick Stream at Stoford are all falling to normal levels.

Showers, possibly heavy at times, are forecast to continue through Monday evening and into Tuesday. With catchments already saturated, it is expected that there will be some response for the rivers in this area. The River Yeo at Sherborne Lake remains high and is currently stable, just above the Flood Alert criteria but may rise further. River levels on River Yeo at Pen Mill, River Wriggle at Chetnole, River Cam at Weston Bampfylde and Barwick Stream at Stoford are currently at normal levels but will rise and may reach Flood Alert levels.

Scattered light showers are forecast for today 03/04/2018. More widespread and potentially heavy showers are forecast on Wednesday from early morning onwards. The river level on the River Yeo at Sherborne Lake remains high. The River Yeo at Pen Mill is also high but forecast to drop later today. The River Wriggle at Chetnole, the Barwick Stream at Stoford and the River Cam at Weston Bampfylde are all falling or stable. Rivers may rise again in response to Wednesday’s forecast rainfall. We will be monitoring the situation and will update this message on 04/04/2018.

Monday 02/04/2018 will be largely dry however showers are forecast this evening and overnight into Tuesday morning. River levels on the River Yeo at Sherborne Lake remain high. The River Yeo at Pen Mill looks to have peaked and now to be falling slowly. The River Wriggle at Chetnole, River Cam at Weston Bampfylde and Barwick Stream at Stoford are falling. It is likely that rivers will respond to tonight’s forecast rainfall.

Heavy, persistent and widespread rainfall is forecast from 4:00 pm on 01/04/2018, overnight and into Monday 02/04/2018. River levels on the River Yeo at Sherborne Lake, River Yeo at Pen Mill, River Wriggle at Chetnole, River Cam at Weston Bampfylde and Barwick Stream at Stoford are stable or recovering after the rain earlier in the week. Catchments are very wet and river levels are expected to rise later this evening in response to the forecast rainfall.

Persistent and at times heavy rainfall is forecast to continue through the rest of today (Friday 30th) until about midday on Saturday 31st March. Levels are expected to rise further during this evening in response to the continuing rainfall.

This flood alert will remain in force during this period because of the high level of the River Yeo at Sherborne Lake. The River Yeo at Pen Mill, River Wriggle at Chetnole, River Cam at Weston Bampfylde and Barwick Stream at Stoford are all currently rising in response to earlier rainfall but are currently below the flood alert threshold. We are monitoring this situation and will update this message on Friday.

Showery rainfall totalling 10-15 mm is forecast between 07:00 and 13:00 on Thursday 29/03/3018. River levels are rising on the River Yeo at Sherborne Lake. River levels have peaked and are now falling on the River Yeo at Pen Mill, River Wriggle at Chetnole, River Cam at Weston Bampfylde and Barwick Stream at Stoford, however, are expected to rise again in response to the forecast rainfall on Thursday morning.

The heavy overnight rainfall has reduced in intensity however, the River Wriggle is now responding and levels are rising steadily and it is forecast to peak about 04:00 am today Thursday 15/03/2018. High river levels and bankfull conditions are expected throughout the catchment. Flooding may affect low lying land and roads including the Sparkford to Weston Bampfylde road and in particular at Deep Ford Lane, Chetnole.

Unsettled conditions throughout the early part of this week are likely to see showery rainfall throughout the local area. This rainfall will keep the catchments saturated and rivers could react quickly. As water levels at Sherborne Lake are forecast to remain high for several days to come this flood alert will remain in force and it will be updated daily unless there is a substantial change to the rainfall forecast.

Showery rainfall, heavy at times will affect the local area throughout this evening, Sunday 11/03/2018 and into the early hours of tomorrow morning. With the catchments already saturated this further rainfall will cause all rivers to react. Peak river levels are forecast around midnight tonight and the levels at Sherborne Lake are expected to remain high for several days to come. Flooding may affect roads including the Sparkford to Weston Bampfylde road and Deep Ford Lane, Chetnole.

This Flood Alert remains in force as a precautionary measure. River levels on the River Yeo at Sherborne Lake, River Yeo at Pen Mill, River Wriggle at Chetnole, River Cam at Weston Bampfylde and Barwick Stream at Stoford are all currently below the flood alert level. However, the River Yeo at Pen Mill and the River Cam at Weston Banpfylde are rising in response to the rain this evening. The River Yeo level at Sherborne Lake is still high as a result of yesterday's rain and snow melt but is now slowly falling. Further snow melt could add to the river response across South East Somerset. The rainfall has now generally passed out of the area.

The flood alert issued on Saturday 27/01/2018 for South East Somerset Rivers, Upper Reaches remains in place. Levels in Sherborne Lake are reducing but remain above flood alert criteria. There is further rainfall forecast for Monday 29/01/2018. The Environment Agency will continue to monitor the levels and will review the flood alert on Tuesday 30/1/2018.

In response to today’s rainfall, river levels on the River Cam at Weston Bampfylde are rising and have just crossed the flood alert threshold. We are not expecting it to reach flood warning level. River levels on the River Yeo at Sherborne Lake, the River Wriggle at Chetnole, Stoford and Barwick Streams at Stoford are currently below flood alert criteria but are responding to recent rainfall. The frontal rain has now cleared out of the area, fast moving showers will pass through for the rest of today. We will update this message as the situation changes.

A further band of rainfall is forecast to pass through the local area during this afternoon, Tuesday 26/12/2017 and persist through to the late evening or early hours of tomorrow Wednesday 27/12/2017. This rainfall though less heavy than yesterday will maintain the rivers at elevated levels and could result in some further flooding to low lying land and roads. This message will be updated at 10:00 on Wednesday 27/12/2017 unless the forecast situation deteriorates further.

The South East Somerset Rivers catchment is saturated and all river levels are beginning to respond to the rainfall on Christmas day. Although the rainfall has generally passed out of the area, river levels on the River Cam at Weston Bampfylde and the River Yeo at Sherborne Lake have reached the Flood Alert level and will peak just above this level during the early hours of Tuesday 26/12/2017. Minor flooding to low lying land and fields can be expected.

While the recent heavy rainfall has passed through the local area the Sherborne Lake reservoir remains at an elevated level. Lake levels started to drop very slowly early this morning, Monday 11/12/2017. Some localised flooding to low lying land may remain where the water is not easily able to drain away. This Flood Alert is forecast to remain enforce during the next 24 hours and this message will be updated again on Tuesday morning, 12/12/2017.

The rainfall will steadily decrease throughout the afternoon and early evening of Sunday 10/12/2017 however, river levels across the area are rising slowly in consequence of the recent rainfall. Sherborne Lake has reached the Flood Alert trigger level and levels are forecast remain around this level during the next 24 hours.

River levels on the River Yeo at Sherborne Lake are consistently over the threshold for which water pours over the spillway side weirs and the syphon runs, and are likely to remain high for several hours. High river levels and bankfull conditions are expected throughout the catchment. Flooding may affect downstream roads and fields. Levels on the River Wriggle at Chetnole, and River Cam at Weston Bampfylde however are beginning to fall. Plus, the rainfall has generally passed out of the area and little or no rain is forecast for the next two days.
