The highest tides of the weekend have now passed. Although high tide peak levels will continue to recede for the next few days, offshore waves remain large. These tides are expected to coincide with adverse weather conditions creating tidal surge and large offshore waves. Following the passage of Storm Ciara, wind strengths, tidal surge and wave heights remain high but are generally dropping slowly for the peak of the Spring tides on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th of February. Tides are rising towards a period of spring tides. In tide tables, these peak on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th of February. Values in tide tables for Sunday are not especially large, however, they are forecast to coincide with storm Ciara; this storm is expected to create strong winds, tidal surge and large waves. Particularly during Sunday impacts are expected around the coast. Please avoid coastal areas at high tide as there could be dangerous conditions: strong winds; sea spray; and wave overtopping at the most exposed locations. Wave overtopping can be dangerous and can contain debris. Although the forecast currently highlights Sunday, impacts are likely to continue during high tides into Monday and for the remainder of next week with the unsettled weather conditions expected to continue. The highest tides in this period are currently expected to occur on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning as tides coincide with a low-pressure weather system likely to generate moderate amounts of tidal surge and large offshore waves. Winds over this period will be changeable, on Tuesday winds are generally expected from a more southerly direction force 6 to 7, changing to a more northerly direction on Wednesday morning, force 5 to 6. Flooding of low-lying land and roads is possible over this period, especially on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Extra care should be taken around the coast during periods of high tide, locations exposed to wave action may experience sea spray and wave overtopping; this water can be dangerous and may contain debris.
