The highest tides of the weekend have now passed. Although high tide peak levels will continue to recede for the next few days, offshore waves remain large. Impacts are generally expected to be minor but sea spray and wave overtopping in the most exposed location of the coast is still expected. Whilst the risk to property flooding is reduced, flooding of low-lying land and roads is still possible. Caution should be taken near the coast. We will continue to monitor the situation and update this message if the situation changes.

The current period of spring tides is expected to peak this weekend between Saturday Evening the 14th November and Monday the 16th November. These tides are expected to coincide with adverse weather conditions creating tidal surge and large offshore waves. Winds are expected to be Force 6 from a south-westerly direction on Saturday swinging to a more westerly direction through Sunday. Water levels around the coastline are expected to be high and at exposed locations sea spray and wave overtopping is likely, bringing potentially dangerous conditions in some areas. Caution is advised around the coastline this weekend for the high tides. We will continue to monitor the situation and will update this message as the situation changes.

The peak astronomical tide of the current sequence of large Spring tides has now passed but a new Atlantic depression will produce a significant positive surge component for the morning tide on Thursday the 13th of February. Following the passage of Storm Ciara, wind strengths, tidal surge and wave heights remain high but are generally dropping slowly for the peak of the Spring tides on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th of February. However, impacts are still expected around the coast so please continue to avoid coastal areas at high tide. High water levels, sea spray and wave overtopping may still be possible at some locations. The weather patterns remain unsettled this week so we will continue to monitor the situation and will update this message as the situation changes.

Tides are rising towards a period of spring tides. In tide tables, these peak on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th of February. Values in tide tables for Sunday are not especially large, however, they are forecast to coincide with storm Ciara; this storm is expected to create strong winds, tidal surge and large waves. Particularly during Sunday impacts are expected around the coast. Please avoid coastal areas at high tide as there could be dangerous conditions: strong winds; sea spray; and wave overtopping at the most exposed locations. Wave overtopping can be dangerous and can contain debris. Although the forecast currently highlights Sunday, impacts are likely to continue during high tides into Monday and for the remainder of next week with the unsettled weather conditions expected to continue. The highest tides in this period are currently expected to occur on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning as tides coincide with a low-pressure weather system likely to generate moderate amounts of tidal surge and large offshore waves. Winds over this period will be changeable, on Tuesday winds are generally expected from a more southerly direction force 6 to 7, changing to a more northerly direction on Wednesday morning, force 5 to 6. Flooding of low-lying land and roads is possible over this period, especially on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Extra care should be taken around the coast during periods of high tide, locations exposed to wave action may experience sea spray and wave overtopping; this water can be dangerous and may contain debris. High tide on Friday will occur at 7:15 PM at Burry Port, and 7:30 AM on Saturday. The southerly winds will increase today reaching force 7 to gale force 8 for a time shortly before high tide. Southwesterly force 6 winds are expected this evening. Offshore waves are expected to be large. The combination of large waves together with high winds means that wave overtopping is likely in a number of exposed low lying locations around the Carmarthenshire coastline. Minor wave overtopping is expected around the Carmarthen Bay Holiday Park area and Pendine. Be careful on beaches, promenades, and low lying land. Fridays high tides at Burry Port will be at 7 AM and 7.15 PM. The Southerly winds are forecast to increase through today from force 5 to force 7 or gale force 8 this evening. During the early hours of Friday morning winds will become a South-westerly force 5. Offshore waves are expected to be large, with very rough seas. Be careful on promenades, roads and low lying land.
