This Flood Warning has been issued due to high astronomic tides causing overtopping waves and spray in Hornsea between 06:30 and 08:00 on Sunday 20/09/20. The areas most likely to be affected are Marine Drive and South Promenade in Hornsea. Please take care and be aware of the risk of waves crashing into coastal frontages, avoid low level footpaths along the promenade during this time. Weather conditions are generally settled for the weekend, with spring tides peaking on Sunday, and so it is unlikely that we will need to re-issue this warning for Monday mornings tide. However, we are monitoring the situation closely, and will update this message before 10:00 on Sunday 20/09/20 or as the situation changes.

This Flood Warning has been issued due to high astronomic tides causing overtopping waves and spray in Hornsea between 06:00 and 07:00 on Saturday 19/09/20. The areas most likely to be affected are Marine Drive and South Promenade in Hornsea. Please take care and be aware of the risk of waves crashing into coastal frontages, avoid low level footpaths along the promenade during this time. Weather conditions are generally settled for the weekend. However, spring tides will peak on Sunday, and so it is likely that we will re-issue this warning for Sunday mornings tide too. We are monitoring the situation closely, and will update this message before 10:00 on Saturday 19/09/20

The area of concern is around the Leisure Centre, properties around the leisure centre, and the area behind South Promenade as far as Hornsea Burton Road, including Grainger Road and Pasture Road. Strong to gale force winds combined with high tides are creating large waves along the Yorkshire coast. Overtopping waves and wind blown spray are expected to affect the North and South Promenades of Hornsea tomorrow morning, Saturday 27th October, in particular between 06:00 and 08:00. The flood gates allowing access to the beach have been closed. Strong winds and large waves are expected to continue throughout the weekend so please take care in coastal locations and stay away from large waves as they can be dangerous.
