Groundwater
The groundwater level at West Meon Hut remains very high, but it is now slowly falling. In the last 7 days, only 1mm of rain was recorded in Otterbourne, and groundwater has lowered by 5 cm. At present, we do not expect that cellars are flooded in Twyford. Over the next week, the weather should remain fairly dry, except on Wednesday (03/03/21) and Thursday (04/03/21) when small amounts of rain are forecast (up to 10mm expected). Rain this week may cause a very small rise (no more than 5 cms) in level, but it won’t cause flooding. On Friday (05/03/21) as long as the 10 day weather outlook remains favourable, then we will remove this Flood Alert. We continue to monitor the forecast. Given how high the groundwater level remains, we would still like residents to remain prepared for potential impacts. A very wet end to March and beginning of April could still cause flooding. This Flood Alert will be updated or removed by 12:00 on Friday 5th March 2021.

Flood Alert issued on 22 Feb 2021 11:46
Groundwater
The groundwater level at West Meon Hut remains high. In the last 7 days, rain has fallen fairly persistently and evenly. 30mm has been recorded in Otterbourne. At West Meon Hut, groundwater has currently now stabilised. It has stabilised at a level which is exceptionally close (approximately 0.1m below) where a small number of cellars can experience flood impacts in Twyford. This week, the weather should remain fairly dry. Although currently stable, the groundwater level may still fluctuate a little over the next few days. Some cellar flood impacts in Twyford therefore remain a possibility. However, with drier weather, it is also possible that the level could just begin to fall, before onset of impacts actually occur. We continue to monitor the forecast. If you use pumps to help reduce water levels, please ensure they can operate, in case they should be required over the next few weeks. This Flood Alert will be updated by 12:00 01/03/2021.

Flood Alert issued on 15 Feb 2021 15:50
Groundwater
The Groundwater level at West Meon Hut is high and rising. The level is still increasing as a result of the wet weather recorded at the end of January and beginning of February. The current rate of rise at West Meon is 0.1m per day. At present, there are no impacts. However, from today (Monday 15/02/21) through to Friday (19/02/21) rain is now forecast each day. Groundwater will continue to increase this week and from Friday (19/02/21) onwards, the level could be high enough to impact a small number of cellars (1-2) in Twyford. Next week, very minor impact flooding may begin to affect the road at Hensting Lane. Currently, we are not expecting significant impacts in the villages. We continue to monitor the forecast. If you use pumps to help reduce water levels, please take this time to ensure they can operate. This Flood Alert will be updated by 12:00 on Monday 22nd February 2021.

The Groundwater level at West Meon Hut continues to fall. In the last 5 days, the level has reduced by more than 0.5m. Over the next 5 days, the weather is mostly dry, but it will be interspersed with periods of showery rain, especially through Easter weekend. Given the current forecast totals, the rainfall should not cause groundwater levels to rise. By the end of this week (and if it hasn’t already) groundwater should stop causing impacts to property in Twyford. Next week, as long as the weather forecast remains favourable, then we will remove this Alert. This Flood Alert will be updated or removed by 15:00 on Wednesday 15/04/2020

Flood Alert issued on 30 Mar 2020 10:42
Groundwater
The Groundwater level at West Meon Hut is falling, currently by 0.1 m per day. In the last 7 days, the level has fallen by more than 0.5 m. Given the current rate of fall and the continued dry outlook, it will be around 10 days before groundwater ceases to cause impacts in Twyford and at Hensting Lane.
