Tuesday's early morning tide at 00:15 on 09/04/2024 is higher than normal, due to unsettled weather with strong Southerly Force 7 winds and large waves. The weather increases tide table values by 0.76m. The total forecast tide is 5.75 metres Chart Datum (3.02 mAOD) at Portsmouth. The tide could be the highest ever recorded. For 2 hours either side of high water, Langstone High Street, Ship Inn Pub, Mill Lane, Langstone, South Street, Queen Street and A259 Junction of Lumley Road (Emsworth) will flood. Flood depths will be significant. The tide will flood into the road at Bridge Road car park, Western Parade, Bridgefoot Path and Bath Road. After this tide the weather becomes more settled but minor impacts could continue until Thursday (11/04/2024). To help protect property, we will drain the Mill Pond and install drop boards at Emsworth Promenade. If you have it, please install flood protection 3 hours before high tide including at Bridge Road. We will remove this message by 16:00 on 09/04/2024.

During industrial action this message has been automatically issued based on rising river or tidal levels.

Thursday morning's tide at 11:09 on 24/11/2022 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with strong Southerly Force 6 winds and large waves. The weather increases tide table values by 0.43 m. The total forecast tide is 5.41 metres Chart Datum (2.68 mAOD) at Portsmouth. For 1 hour either side of high water, road and car park flooding will occur at Langstone High Street, Royal Oak, Ship Inn Pub (Langstone), South Street, Queen Street and A259 Junction of Lumley Road. Large waves will cause spray overtopping at Emsworth Promenade and at the immediate water front. In Emsworth, the promenade will become open harbour. Isolated property flooding could occur. The river at Bridge Road may rise to the top of the river bank. At 23:32 on Thursday (24/11/2022)‚ the tide level remains elevated. It is unlikely that it will cause flooding to property. To help protect property, we have drained the Mill Pond and installed drop boards at Emsworth Promenade. If you have it, please install flood protection 1 hour before high tide. We will update this message by 16:00 on 24/11/2022.

Friday afternoon's tide at 12:30 on 18/02/2022 is higher than normal due to Storm Eunice which brings Severe Gale Force 9 South Westerly winds and large waves. The weather increases tide table values by 0.67 m. The total forecast tide is 5.38 metres Chart Datum (2.65 mAOD) at Portsmouth. For 1 hour either side of high water, road and car park flooding will occur at Langstone High Street, Royal Oak, Ship Inn Pub (Langstone), South Street, Queen Street and A259 Junction of Lumley Road. Large waves will overtop at Emsworth Promenade, although the promenade may also become open harbour. Isolated property flooding could occur. Tide levels remain a little elevated on Saturday 19/02/22 at 13:00, although any impacts from this tide are likely to be very minor. We may issue further advice tomorrow. To help protect property, we have installed drop boards at Emsworth Promenade. We continue to monitor the forecast. If you have it, please install flood protection 1 hour before high tide. We will update or remove this message by 18:00 on 18/02/2022.

Tuesday afternoon's tide at 13:00 on 07/12/2021 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with strong South Easterly Force 7 winds and moderate waves. The weather increases tide table values by 0.51 m. The total forecast tide is 5.43 metres Chart Datum (2.70 mAOD) at Portsmouth. For 1 hour either side of high water, road and car park flooding will affect Langstone High Street, The Royal Oak and Ship Inn Pub (Langstone), South Street, Queen Street and the A259 junction of Lumley Road. In Emsworth, the promenade may become open harbour. Isolated property flooding is expected. At Bridge Road, the tide may rise to the top of the river bank for a short period of time. At 01:45 on 08/12/2021‚ the tide level remains elevated, but it is unlikely to cause flooding to property. We'll issue further advice. To help protect property, we have installed drop boards at Emsworth Promenade (on the south side of the Mill Pond). If you have it, please install flood protection 1 hour before high tide. Monday afternoon's tide at 12:00 on 10/02/2020 is higher than normal due to Storm Ciara, which brings South Westerly Gale Force 8 winds and large waves. The weather increases tide table values by 0.6 m. The total forecast tide is 5.44 metres Chart Datum (2.71 mAOD) at Portsmouth. For 1 hour either side of high water, road and car park flooding will occur at Langstone High Street, Royal Oak pub, the Ship Inn Pub (Langstone), South Street, Queen Street and A259 Junction of Lumley Road. In Emsworth, the promenade will become open harbour. Isolated property flooding is expected. Water levels in the river at Bridge Road may rise to the top of the bank. At 00:30 on 11/02/2020‚ the tide is lower, but may cause minor impacts. We may issue further advice tomorrow. To help protect property, we have installed stop logs and drained the mill pond at Emsworth. If you have flood protection, please install it 1 hour before high tide. Wednesdays early morning tide at 02:00 on 15/01/2020 is higher than normal due to Storm Brendan which brings Gale Force 8 Southerly winds and large waves. The weather increases tide table values by 0.67 m. The total forecast tide is 5.34 metres Chart Datum (2.61 mAOD) at Portsmouth. For 1 hour either side of high water, the tide and waves will cause road and car park flooding at Langstone High Street, Royal Oak, Ship Inn Pub (Langstone), South Street, Queen Street and A259 Junction of Lumley Road. Large waves will cause spray overtopping at Emsworth Promenade and at the immediate water front and property flooding may occur. After this tide‚ no further impacts are expected. To help protect property, we have installed stop logs at Emsworth Promenade. We will also lower water levels in Emsworth Mill Pond, as heavy rainfall is forecast overnight.
