River Blackwater
The water level in the River Blackwater peaked today at about 2pm following heavy rainfall overnight and this morning (27/11/24). To our knowledge, water levels did not get high enough to flood the Mill at East Wellow. Levels are now steadily falling because of dry weather over the last 6 hours. A flood warning remains in force for Ower and Wellow this evening although impacts are reducing. Out of bank flooding will continue to affect land and roads and will continue overnight and into tomorrow at West Wellow, Landford and Ower. The weather is mostly dry until the end of the week. We continue to monitor the forecast. Please avoid walking or driving through flood water. We will update this Flood Alert by 10:00 on Thursday 28/11/2024.

The water level in the River Blackwater at Wellow and Ower is high and rising. Throughout the course of the night, very heavy rain (27mm) has been recorded in Romsey. This is a large amount in a short period of time. Over the next 12 - 24 hours, more significant out of bank flooding will affect land and roads at West Wellow, Landford and Ower. From 12:30 this afternoon, the river will be high enough to flood the Mill at East Wellow. Rain has now cleared the area. Water levels will be similar to those experienced over the weekend. The river will peak at around 17:00 this evening (27/11/2024). Our operations staff are ensuring the River Blackwater is kept free of blockages. We continue to monitor the forecast. Please take appropriate action to protect property and ensure pumps used to lower water levels are operating. This Flood Warning will be updated by 12:00 on 28/11/2024.

The water level in the River Blackwater at Ower and Cadnam River is very high following heavy rainfall on Saturday, when 38mm of rain was recorded in Romsey. The river is currently flooding land, fields and roads at Cadnam, West Wellow, Landford and Ower, with potential properties affected at East Wellow. Today (Sunday 24/11/2024), further rain (10-20mm) is forecast in Hampshire before Storm Bert finally clears the area. The river will rise in response to this rain and is unlikely to peak until Monday afternoon. The weather outlook next week remains unsettled. We continue to monitor the forecast. Our operations staff will work to ensure the river remains free of any reported blockages. Please ensure that pumps used to protect property are operating. The water level in the River Blackwater at Wellow and Ower is high and rising. In the last 17 hours, almost half a month’s rain (35mm) has been recorded at Romsey. From 05:00 this morning (24/11/24) the river will be high enough to flood the mill at East Wellow. Storm Bert will continue to impact the area until 03:00 this morning when there will be a brief respite. A further 20-30mm is then expected throughout Sunday. If further rain impacts the river later today then over the next 12 - 24 hours, more significant out of bank flooding will affect land and roads and a small number of properties at West Wellow, Landford and Ower. Our operations staff are ensuring the River Blackwater is kept free of blockages. We continue to monitor the forecast. The water level in the River Blackwater at Wellow and Ower is high and rising. Over 30mm of rain has been recorded at Romsey on Tuesday, which is a lot. Nearly half a month's worth of rain, and follows a very wet September. Throughout Wednesday, more significant out of bank flooding will affect land and roads at West Wellow, Landford and Ower. From 04:00 Wednesday morning (09/10/2024), the river could be high enough to flood the Mill at East Wellow. The worst of the rain has now cleared the area. Only scattered showers are forecast through to the weekend. The river is expected to peak at around 06:00 on Wednesday 09/10/2024. Our operations staff are ensuring the River Blackwater is kept free of blockages. We continue to monitor the forecast. The water level in the River Blackwater at Wellow and Ower is high and rising. Throughout Thursday morning (28/03/2024), 15mm of rain has been recorded in Romsey. This has added to a river which is already high. Over the next 24 hours, more significant out of bank flooding will affect land and roads at West Wellow, Landford and Ower. From 19:00 this evening (28/03/2024) , the river will be high enough to flood the Mill at East Wellow. Heavy showers will continue until midday Friday 29/03/2024 and levels will rise and fall in response. The river is expected to peak around midday on Friday 29/03/2024. Our operations staff are ensuring the River Blackwater is kept free of blockages. We continue to monitor the forecast. The water level in the River Blackwater at Wellow and Ower is high and rising. In the last 36 hours, 30mm of rain has been recorded in Romsey. This is close to half a month’s rainfall and follows months of exceptionally wet weather. Over the next 12 - 24 hours, more significant out of bank flooding will affect land and roads at West Wellow, Landford and Ower. From 22:00 this evening, the river will be high enough to flood the Mill at East Wellow. The river will peak at 03:00 (Friday 23/02/24). Showers are forecast over the next two days (Friday 23/02/24 and Saturday 24/02/24) and a further band of rain is forecast on Sunday (25/02/24). This additional rainfall will maintain the responsive nature of the River Blackwater catchment. We will continue to monitor the forecast and river levels. Our operations staff are ensuring the River Blackwater is kept free of blockages. Please take appropriate action to protect property and ensure pumps used to lower water levels are operating. River Blackwater
Water levels on the River Blackwater remain high, but are stable. In the last 24 hours, nearly 25mm of rainfall was recorded at Testwood. This is a significant amount of rainfall, and follows weeks of prolonged rainfall. There will be flooding of land, fields and roads at Cadnam, West Wellow, Landford and Ower. Water levels will also be very high around the mill building at East Wellow. Flooding will continue for the next couple of days. The weather is now fairly dry over the next 3 days, so levels will start to fall during this time. Currently, some further rainfall is forecast on Tuesday (13/02/2024). If rain does affect the area, then levels may rise again. At present, forecast rainfall totals are unlikely to flood property, but please expect the river to be higher than normal over the next few days. We continue to monitor the forecast. This total, whilst not that large, has added to a river which is already high as a result of heavy rain over the last few days. Over the next 12 hours, more significant out of bank flooding will affect land and roads at West Wellow, Landford and Ower. From 02:00 this morning, the river will be high enough to flood the Mill at East Wellow. Showery conditions will continue throughout the day. The river is expected to peak at 04:00 on 09/02/2024. This is a significant amount of rain, falling on an already saturated catchment. Over the next 6 hours, more significant out of bank flooding will affect land and roads at West Wellow, Landford and Ower. From 02:00 on Friday (05/01/24), the river will be high enough to flood the Mill at East Wellow. Further rain is forecast over the next 5 hours with up to 10mm possible. Water levels in the River Blackwater are high and are rising. In the last 24 hours, 20mm of rain has been recorded in Romsey. This is not a large amount, but it follows a prolonged and wet winter. Currently, the river is very high around the mill building at Wellow. From 19:00 this evening, levels could be high enough to cause property flooding. The river will also flood roads and low lying land from Landford to Wade Bridge. Rain should clear the area by 18:30 this evening. The river is unlikely to peak until around midnight or the early hours of tomorrow morning (06/03/2020). Tomorrow, a dry day means that water levels will fall. We will continue to monitor the river and will keep it free of reported blockages. Please ensure any pumps used to protect property can operate. Water levels in the River Blackwater remain high but are falling slowly. In the last 24 hours 50 mm of rain has fallen in Romsey, which is more than half a month’s rainfall. Currently, there is extensive out of bank flooding affecting land and roads from Landford to Wade Bridge. Property flooding is expected at Wellow. Water levels will remain high for the next 12 hours. Over the next 5 days, small amounts of rain are expected each day with an unsettled forecast, particularly Wednesday through Thursday. This may keep water levels topped up but the general trend will be falling water levels. We continue to monitor the forecast. Please ensure that pumps used to protect property are operating. Water levels in the River Blackwater remain very high. In the last 24 hours more than 40 mm of rain has fallen in Romsey, which is more than half a month’s rainfall. Currently, there is extensive out of bank flooding affecting land and roads from Landford to Wade Bridge. Property flooding is expected at Wellow. Rain will continue to affect the area until 17:00. Water levels are currently falling, but over the next couple of hours, the river could still rise a little. It will remain very high over the next 18 hours. Tomorrow (Monday 17/02/2020), much smaller amounts of rain are forecast and the situation should begin to improve. We continue to monitor the forecast. Water levels in the River Blackwater remain high and are rising. In the last 24 hours, 26mm of rain has been recorded in Romsey. Over the next two days continued and more significant out of bank flooding affecting land and roads from Landford to Wade Bridge, especially at Wellow is expected, along with property flooding. Through to Sunday afternoon, further heavy rain will affect the area, keeping levels high and rising. Levels could be the highest recorded in the last 7 years. Further rain, potentially up to 25mm, is expected over the next 15 hours, and the river is unlikely to peak until later Sunday afternoon. We will continue to monitor the river. Water levels in the River Blackwater remain high and are rising. In the last 24 hours, another 17mm of rain has been recorded in Romsey. The river is unlikely to peak until lunchtime today (17/01/2020). Continued and more significant out of bank flooding affecting land and roads from Landford to Wade Bridge, especially at Wellow is expected, along with some property flooding. Showers, some heavy at times will continue today, which will keep river levels high, although they should begin to fall this afternoon. From tomorrow (18/01/2020) the weather will be dry for at least 5 days, which will give water levels a chance to recover. Alert and warning messages will then be removed. Water levels in the River Blackwater remain high, but are falling. Today (16/01/2020), the forecast rainfall totals have increased, with up to 30mm expected. This is a large volume of rain and should that affect the River Blackwater, then levels will rise quickly, and be much higher than they were yesterday, causing property flooding. The rain is due to move into Hampshire by lunchtime. Over the next 24 hours, there will be continued, and in some places, deep flooding of land and roads from Landford to Wade Bridge. Water levels in the River Blackwater remain very high although are just starting to fall. In the last 24 hours more than 38mm of rain has been recorded at Romsey. The river is currently causing minor impact flooding to land and roads from Landford to Wade Bridge, and is high enough to cause flooding to the Mill at Wellow. The weather forecast today has improved, with any remaining rain clearing this morning and mostly dry for the rest of the day. Thursday (16/01/2020) afternoon and evening will see showers, in some places locally heavy, of 7-10mm. This will cause river levels to rise again. Friday (17/01/2020) and the weekend sees drier weather. Our staff are out keeping rivers free of blockages. We will continue to monitor the river. Further rainfall is expected over the next 3 hours. The river is unlikely to peak until early afternoon, by which time, the level could be similar to that experienced on 20 December 2019. Water levels in the River Blackwater are high and continue to rise. Since the beginning of December, 98mm of rain has been recorded at Romsey. This is more than a month’s rainfall. Further heavy rain is forecast this afternoon and evening (19/12/2019). The river is currently flooding land and roads from Landford to Wade Bridge. In the next 12 hours, the river will be high enough to flood the Mill at Wellow. Today (19/12/2019) and through to Friday morning (20/12/2019), further rain is forecast with up to 25mm expected. The river will peak initially around Thursday lunchtime (19/12/2019) but with further heavy rainfall will rise again beyond this level, peaking at around 11:00 Friday morning (20/12/2019). Our operational staff are ensuring the River Blackwater is kept free of blockages. We will continue to monitor the river and will issue further advice.
