River Itchen
Tuesday's early morning tide at 00:30 on 09/04/2024 and 02:00 on 09/04/2024 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with strong Southerly Force 6 winds. The weather increases tide table values by 0.82 m. The total forecast tide is 5.64 metres Chart Datum (2.90 mAOD) at Southampton. The tide is very high and close to previous historical maximum levels. For 1.5 hours either side of high water, levels in the lower River Itchen will rise as the incoming tide prevents water flowing out to sea. The car garage and pub will flood if flood protection is not installed. Large areas of Riverside Park will also be affected. It will be difficult to see the edge of the river bank and the park should be avoided. After this tide the weather becomes more settled, but minor impacts could continue until Thursday (11/04/2024). We continue to monitor the forecast. Please consider closing defence gates at the pub 1 hour before high tide. Please avoid flooded areas in Riverside Park. We will update this message by 16:00 on 09/04/2024.

Flood Warning issued on 16 Nov 2020 07:24
River Itchen
The Lower River Itchen remains very high following heavy rainfall over the weekend. High tide at Southampton is forecast at 11:09 on 16/11/2020 and 13:21 on 16/11/2020. The tide is still higher than normal, but will be lower than recorded in recent days, forecast at 5.03 m Chart Datum (2.29 mAOD). Given that flows in the river are still very high, for 1 hour either side of high tide, water may still come out of bank, flooding the access road and car parking areas near the White Swan Pub and the car garage at Mansbridge. Impacts should be much less than experienced over the weekend. For the next 4 days, the weather should be dry, and tide levels continue to lower. This will give the river a chance to return to normal and the situation will improve. The sea door at Woodmill remains open, and it is helping to lower levels in the river. We recommend closing the defence gates around the pub. This Flood Warning will be updated by 18:00 on Monday 16/11/2020.
Flood Warning issued on 15 Nov 2020 16:15
River Itchen
The Lower River Itchen remains very high. In the last 24 hours, half a month’s rain (42mm) has been recorded at Portswood. High tide at Southampton is forecast at 22:46 on 15/11/2020 and 01:00 on 16/11/2020. Tide levels are again higher than normal, forecast at 5.22 m Chart Datum (2.48mAOD). Heavy showers are expected this afternoon between 15:00 and 17:00. Given that flows in the river are still very high, for 2 hours either side of high tide water may still come out of bank, flooding the access road and car parking areas near the White Swan Pub and car garage at Mansbridge. Tomorrow, whilst tide levels remain elevated, they are reducing and the weather is drier. The situation should now generally improve. The sea door at Woodmill remains open and it is helping to lower levels in the river. We recommend closing the defence gates around the pub. This Flood Warning will be updated by 08:00 on Monday 16/11/2020.

However, for 2 hours either side of high tide, the river will come out of bank affecting the access road and car parking areas near the White Swan Pub and car garage at Mansbridge. It is possible that some property flooding could occur. Showers are expected to continue this morning with up to 10 mm expected. The River Itchen will remain high today, with the potential for further impacts at high tide this evening, expected at 22:46. The sea door at Woodmill remains open. For the next 2 to 3 hours, the river will remain very high until tide levels begin to fall. Some water may be forced up through the floor of the Pub. Flooding could also affect the pub car park and may come close to the car garage. Parts of Riverside Park will also be flooded. River Itchen
Monday morning's tide at 11:34 and 13:39 on 10/02/2020 is higher than normal due to Storm Ciara, which brings strong South Westerly Force 7 winds. The weather increases tide table values by 0.58 m. The total forecast tide is 5.38 metres Chart Datum (2.64 mAOD) at Southampton. For 1.5 hours either side of high water, levels in the lower River Itchen will rise as the incoming tide prevents water flowing out to sea. The access road near the pub will flood. Without a barrier installed, it will flood the pub car park and could flood the car garage. Footpath flooding is expected in Riverside Park. Levels will be very high around the Activity Centre. At 23:57 on 10/02/2020 the tide is lower, but minor impacts may still occur. We may issue further advice. We continue to monitor the forecast. At Mansbridge, please consider installing the temporary flood barrier and closing defence gates at the pub 1 hour before high tide. We will update this message by 16:00 on 10/02/2020.
