High river levels are expected to cause flooding over the next three days.
Flooding is expected on 02 February 2026 , due to a combination of high river flows and tide levels.
High tide at Southampton is forecast at 23:30 02/02/2026 and 02:00 03/02/2026. The water level is expected to be 4.84 metres Chart Datum (2.10 mAOD). Flooding will affect the access road and car parking areas near the White Swan Pub and car garage at Mansbridge. Water may be forced up through the floor of the Pub. Riverside Park will also be flooded. Levels may also be very high at Gaters Mill. Tuesday morning's tide at 11:45 03/02/2026 will be 20cm higher. Flooding impacts will be more extensive. More rain is forecast and so flows in the River Itchen will stay high. Please remain prepared.
We are liaising with emergency services and local authorities . Southampton City Council are operating the sea door at Woodmill.

Flooding is expected on 02 February 2026 due to a combination of high river flows and tide levels.
High tide at Southampton is forecast at 11:00 and 13:15 02/02/2026. The water level is expected to be 4.87 metres Chart Datum (2.13 mAOD). Flooding will affect the access road and car parking areas near the White Swan Pub and car garage at Mansbridge. Some water may be forced up through the floor of the Pub. Parts of Riverside Park will also be flooded. Levels may also be very high at Gaters Mill. Only a small amount of rain is forecast today (02/02/2026). This evening's tide at 23:45 02/02/2026 will be 2cm lower. Flooding impacts will be similar. Please remain prepared.

Flooding is expected on 28 January 2026 , as a lot of rain (40mm) fell on Monday.
High tide is forecast at 18:45 and 20:15 28/01/2026 at Southampton. For 1.5 hours either side of high tide, flooding may affect the access road and car parking areas near the White Swan Pub and car garage at Mansbridge. Some water may be forced up through the floor of the Pub. Parts of Riverside Park will also be flooded. Levels may be very high at Gaters Mill. Only isolated showers are forecast today 28/01/2026 and Thursday 29/01/2026. However, the next high tide at 07:30 29/01/2026 is forecast to be 28cm higher. Further flooding impacts are possible during this period.

High river levels are expected to cause flooding on Tuesday.
Flooding is expected on 27 January 2026 as a lot of rain fell in Storm Chandra (35mm).
Impacts are expected from 16:30 and during high tide. The next high tide will be at 17:45 at a height of 4.58mCD. Flooding will affect the access road and car parking areas near the White Swan Pub and car garage at Mansbridge. Some water may be forced up through the floor of the Pub. Parts of Riverside Park will also be flooded. As the river continues to respond to this mornings rain, levels could also become very high at Gaters Mill. Showers are forecast to continue until today but the worst of the rain should have cleared. Flood risk should reduce for the following tide at 06:15 28/101/2026.

Flows in the Lower River Itchen are high and increasing. In the last 24 hours, 35mm of rain has been recorded at Portswood. Monday's early morning tide at 03:15 on 06/01/2025 and 04:30 on 06/01/2025 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather, with strong Southerly Force 6 winds. The weather increases tide table values by 0.88 m. The total forecast tide is 5.27 metres Chart Datum (2.53 mAOD) at Southampton. For 2 hours either side of high water, levels in the Lower River Itchen will rise as the incoming tide prevents water flowing out to sea. At Mansbridge, the pub car park will flood. Footpaths will flood throughout Riverside Park. In some places, it will be very difficult to see the edge of the river bank. Monday afternoon's tide at 15:30 on 06/01/2025 is forecast to be 70 cm lower (1.83 mAOD). No further flood impacts are expected. We continue to monitor the forecast. Please consider closing the defence gates at the pub 1 hour before high tide. Please avoid flooded areas in Riverside Park. We will remove this message by 12:00 on 06/01/2025.

Tuesday's early morning tide at 00:30 on 09/04/2024 and 02:00 on 09/04/2024 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with strong Southerly Force 6 winds. The weather increases tide table values by 0.82 m. The total forecast tide is 5.64 metres Chart Datum (2.90 mAOD) at Southampton. The tide is very high and close to previous historical maximum levels. For 1.5 hours either side of high water, levels in the lower River Itchen will rise as the incoming tide prevents water flowing out to sea. The car garage and pub will flood if flood protection is not installed. Large areas of Riverside Park will also be affected. It will be difficult to see the edge of the river bank and the park should be avoided. After this tide the weather becomes more settled, but minor impacts could continue until Thursday (11/04/2024). We continue to monitor the forecast. Please consider closing defence gates at the pub 1 hour before high tide. Please avoid flooded areas in Riverside Park. We will update this message by 16:00 on 09/04/2024.

It is high tide at Southampton and the amount of river water that can drain to sea is being restricted. For the next 4 hours the river will remain very high until the tide level begins to fall. Some water may be forced up through the floor of the pub. Flooding could affect the pub car park and may come close to the car garage. Parts of Riverside Park will be flooded. Levels will be very high at Gaters Mill. Today’s lunchtime tides are at 12:49 and 14:57 on 29/03/2024. This Flood Warning will remain in force until after the next tide. To help lower water levels in the river, we have operated the sluices at Woodmill. We continue to monitor the forecast. We recommend closing defence gates around the pub at least 1 hour before and after high tide. This Flood Warning will be updated or removed by 18:00 on 29/03/2024.

As river flows will continue to increase there is a continued risk of flooding on each elevated spring tide into the weekend. Flows in the Lower River Itchen at Mansbridge are high and increasing. In the last hour, 0.65mm of rain has fallen at Portswood. Whilst not a large total, it follows weeks of prolonged wet weather. High tide at Southampton is at 22:15 today. Tide levels are normal for a spring tide and are forecast at 4.93 mCD (2.19 mAOD) at Southampton. Tomorrow's tide at 10:15 is 4.94 mCD (2.2 mAOD). For 2 hours either side of high tide, the river will come out of bank affecting the access road and car parking areas near the White Swan Pub and car garage at Mansbridge. Parts of Riverside Park will be flooded. Levels will be very high at Gaters Mill. Further rain will affect the area over the next 24 hours with 10mm widespread, and up to 15-20mm in isolated showers. As river flows will continue to increase there is a risk of flooding on every high tide over the next two days. To help lower water levels we have operated the sluices at Woodmill. We recommend closing the defence gates around the pub at least an hour before and after high tide. This Flood Warning will be updated by 12:00 on 10/03/2024.

Flows in the Lower River Itchen at Mansbridge are high and increasing. In the last 32 hours 37mm of rainfall has been recorded in Portswood. Of this 18mm has been recorded in just the last 10 hours. Whilst not a very large total, it follows weeks of prolonged wet weather. High tide at Southampton is forecast at 22:14 today 22/02/2024. Tide levels are lower than normal for a spring tide, forecast at 4.6mCD and 1.9mAOD at Southampton. For 2 hours either side of high tide, the river will come out of bank affecting the access road and car parking areas near the White Swan Pub and car garage at Mansbridge. Parts of Riverside Park will also be flooded. Levels will also be very high at Gaters Mill. The heavier rain is about to pass over. River flows will reduce after high tide and with future tide levels also reducing, no further impacts are expected. We continue to monitor the forecast. This is a significant amount and it follows weeks of prolonged wet weather. High tide at Southampton is forecast at 22:42 on 09/02/2024 and 00:54 on 10/02/2024. Tide levels are forecast at 5.18m Chart Datum (2.44 mAOD). For 2 hours either side of high tide, the river will come out of bank affecting the access road and car parking areas near the White Swan Pub and car garage at Mansbridge. Parts of Riverside Park will be flooded. Levels will be very high at Gaters Mill. Further rain is forecast this afternoon and up to 25mm of rainfall is expected. As river flows remain high there is a risk of flooding on every tide over the next few days. Tides remain high for the next few days. Tide levels are low, forecast at 3.95m Chart Datum and 1.21 mAOD at Southampton. For two hours either side of high tide, the river will come out of bank, affecting the access road and car parking areas near the White Swan Pub and car garage at Mansbridge. Parts of Riverside Park will also be flooded and levels will also be very high at Gaters Mill. Dry weather is forecast for the next 5 days. This should allow river flows to slowly reduce, however, there remains a risk of flooding at each high tide over the next couple of days. High tide at Southampton is forecast at 23:21. Tide levels are reasonably high, forecast at 4.83 mCD (2.09 mAOD) at Southampton.
