For 1 hour either side of high water in Old Portsmouth, the tide may just exceed the top of the main slipway which will cause minor road flooding in East Street and to the boat yards at The Camber. To protect property in Old Portsmouth, tidal defence gates will be closed. After this tide‚ the weather becomes more settled‚ so levels will reduce and no further impacts are expected. The weather increases tide table values by 0.76 m. The total forecast tide is 5.75 metres Chart Datum (3.02 mAOD) at Portsmouth. The tide will be the highest ever recorded. Property flooding and road closures are expected at Old Portsmouth. For at least 2 hours either side of high water, there will be significant overtopping of sea defences flooding roads and promenades around the Portsmouth coastline, especially at Southsea. After this tide the weather becomes more settled but minor impacts could continue until Thursday (11/04/2024). We continue to monitor the forecast. We are liaising with the local authority over flood defence gate closures. Conditions are dangerous. Avoid walking or driving along the exposed coast at high tide. Thursday's early morning tide at 02:00 on 13/02/2020 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with strong Southerly Force 7 winds and moderate waves. The weather increases tide table values by 0.34 m. The total forecast tide is 5.17 metres Chart Datum (2.44 mAOD) at Portsmouth. Tide levels are not overly high, but for 1 hour either side of high water, some spray overtopping of sea defence walls at Southsea Promenade may occur. Water may affect the road at Eastern Road. To protect property in Old Portsmouth, tidal defence gates will be closed. At 14:15 on Thursday 13/02/2020 the tide is similar in height, and may cause similar impacts. Conditions should then improve until the weekend, when Storm Dennis may bring rough seas. We are liaising with the local authority over flood defence gate closures. Avoid Southsea sea front at high tide. Spray and large waves can carry and throw shingle and debris. We will remove this message by 17:00 on 13/02/2020.

In the early hours of Thursday morning (13/02/2020) at 02:00, the tide level at Portsmouth is higher than normal. Tomorrow (Wednesday 12/02/2020), if the forecast tide level has increased, then we might issue another Flood Alert for minor impact flooding. The weather increases tide table values by 0.34 m. The total forecast tide is 5.18 metres Chart Datum (2.45 mAOD) at Portsmouth. For 1 hour either side of high water, spray overtopping of defence walls at Southsea promenade and Eastern road is expected. In Old Porstmouth, it may affect boat yards at The Camber and cause minor impact road flooding at East Street. To protect property in Old Portsmouth, tidal defence gates will be closed. The weather increases tide table values by 0.6 m. The total forecast tide is 5.44 metres Chart Datum (2.71 mAOD) at Portsmouth. For 1 hour either side of high water, overtopping of the sea wall into the garden of the Still and West Pub, Old Portsmouth is expected. The road will flood at East Street and impact boat yards at The Camber. Spray overtopping of defence walls at Southsea promenade and Eastern road is also expected. To protect property, the tidal defence gates at Old Portsmouth will be closed. At 00:30 on 11/02/2020‚ the tide is lower, but minor impacts are still expected. The weather increases tide table values by 0.67 m. The total forecast tide is 5.34 metres Chart Datum (2.61 mAOD) at Portsmouth. For 1 hour either side of high water, in Old Portsmouth, the tide may just exceed the top of the main slipway, causing minor road flooding in East Street and to boat yards at The Camber. Spray overtopping of defence walls at Southsea promenade and Eastern road is also expected. To protect property in Old Portsmouth, tidal defence gates will be closed.
