Friday afternoon's tide at 13:45 on 21/08/2020 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with strong South Westerly Force 7 winds and large waves. The weather increases tide table values by 0.37 m (surge). The forecast tide is 5.24 metres Chart Datum (2.51 mAOD) at Portsmouth. For 1 hour either side of high water, minor road flooding could occur at East Street, as the tide could just exceed the top of the main slipway. Spray overtopping of the defence walls along Southsea promenade is also expected. In Old Portsmouth, tidal defence gates will be closed to protect property. After this tide‚ the weather is more settled and no further impacts are expected. We continue to monitor the forecast and are liaising with our partners over tidal defence gate closures. Avoid walking at the exposed southern coast during high tide. Spray and large waves can carry and throw shingle and debris. We will remove this message by 17:00 on 21/08/2020.

At Portsmouth, Thursday's early morning tide at 00:45 on 12/03/2020 is higher than normal, with strong South Westerly Force 7 winds. The weather increases tide table values by 0.24m. The total forecast tide is 5.20 metres Chart Datum (2.47mAOD). On Thursday afternoon, at 13:00 on 12/03/2020, there will be strong Westerly Force 6 winds. The weather will increase tide table values by 0.32m. The forecast tide is 5.24 metres Chart Datum (2.51 mAOD). For both tides, impacts are similar. For 1 hour either side of high water, in Old Portsmouth, the tide may just exceed the top of the main slipway, causing minor road flooding in East Street and disruption to the boat yards at The Camber. Spray overtopping of defence walls at Southsea promenade is also expected. After tomorrow, no further impacts are expected. To protect property in Old Portsmouth, tidal defence gates will be closed. Avoid walking through floodwater. This Alert will be removed by 17:00 on 12/03/2020.

Wednesday afternoon's tide at 12:15 on 11/03/2020 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather, with strong South Westerly Force 6 winds. The weather increases tide table values by 0.31 m. The total forecast tide is 5.33 metres Chart Datum (2.60 mAOD) at Portsmouth. For 1 hour either side of high water, in Old Portsmouth, the tide may exceed the top of the main slipway, which will cause minor road flooding in East Street and to the boat yards at The Camber. Some minor spray overtopping of defence walls at Southsea promenade and Eastern Road is also expected. To protect property in Old Portsmouth, tidal defence gates will be closed. Tide levels will remain elevated until Friday 13/03/2020. Some minor impacts affecting the sea front car parks and roads may occur at each high tide until then. We are liaising with the Local Authority over flood defence gate closures. Avoid exposed sea front locations at high tide. We will update or remove this message by 17:00 on 11/03/2020.

Thursday's early morning tide at 02:00 on 13/02/2020 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with strong Southerly Force 7 winds and moderate waves. The weather increases tide table values by 0.34 m. The total forecast tide is 5.17 metres Chart Datum (2.44 mAOD) at Portsmouth. Tide levels are not overly high, but for 1 hour either side of high water, some spray overtopping of sea defence walls at Southsea Promenade may occur. Water may affect the road at Eastern Road. To protect property in Old Portsmouth, tidal defence gates will be closed. At 14:15 on Thursday 13/02/2020 the tide is similar in height, and may cause similar impacts. Conditions should then improve until the weekend, when Storm Dennis may bring rough seas. We are liaising with the local authority over flood defence gate closures. Avoid Southsea sea front at high tide. Spray and large waves can carry and throw shingle and debris. We will remove this message by 17:00 on 13/02/2020.

Today and tomorrow, tide levels and wave heights remain slightly elevated. Some spray overtopping could affect coastal footpaths at Southsea at each high tide. In the early hours of Thursday morning (13/02/2020) at 02:00, the tide level at Portsmouth is higher than normal. Tomorrow (Wednesday 12/02/2020), if the forecast tide level has increased, then we might issue another Flood Alert for minor impact flooding. This message will be updated or removed by 16:00 on Wednesday 12/02/2020.

The weather increases tide table values by 0.34 m. The total forecast tide is 5.18 metres Chart Datum (2.45 mAOD) at Portsmouth. For 1 hour either side of high water, spray overtopping of defence walls at Southsea promenade and Eastern road is expected. In Old Porstmouth, it may affect boat yards at The Camber and cause minor impact road flooding at East Street. To protect property in Old Portsmouth, tidal defence gates will be closed. On Wednesday (12/02/2020) we may issue further advice for the forecast tide at 02:00 am on Thursday 13/02/2020 We are liaising with the local authority over flood defence gate closures. The weather increases tide table values by 0.6 m. The total forecast tide is 5.44 metres Chart Datum (2.71 mAOD) at Portsmouth. For 1 hour either side of high water, overtopping of the sea wall into the garden of the Still and West Pub, Old Portsmouth is expected. The road will flood at East Street and impact boat yards at The Camber. Spray overtopping of defence walls at Southsea promenade and Eastern road is also expected. To protect property, the tidal defence gates at Old Portsmouth will be closed. At 00:30 on 11/02/2020‚ the tide is lower, but minor impacts are still expected. We are liaising with the local authority over flood defence gate closures. Large waves will carry and throw shingle onto roads and footpaths. Avoid exposed sea front locations at high tide. We will update this message by 16:00 on 10/02/2020.

Wednesday morning's tide at 11:15 on 27/11/2019 is higher than normal due to ex Storm Sebastien which brings strong South Westerly Force 7 winds. The weather increases tide table values by 0.48m. The total forecast tide is 5.42 metres Chart Datum (2.69 mAOD) at Portsmouth. For 1 hour either side of high water, overtopping may affect the garden of the Still and West Pub, Old Portsmouth. The road at East Street will flood. Boat yards around The Camber will experience impacts. Some overtopping at Southsea Promenade and Eastern Road is also possible. To protect property, tidal defence gates at Old Portsmouth will be closed. Tide levels remain high until Thursday evening (28/11/2019), but it is unlikely that further messages will be issued. We are liaising with the local authority over flood defence gate closures. Avoid walking along the exposed sea front, especially Southsea, at high tide. We will remove this message by 16:00 on 27/11/2019.

The forecast tide is 5.35 metres Chart Datum (2.62 mAOD) at Portsmouth. For 1 hour either side of high water, in Old Portsmouth the tide may just exceed the main slipway, causing minor road flooding in East Street. Boat yards at The Camber could also see impacts. Minor spray overtopping of defence walls at Southsea Promenade and Eastern road is also expected. To protect property in Old Portsmouth, tidal defence gates will be closed. At 11:15 on Wednesday 27/11/2019 the forecast tide will be even higher. We'll issue further advice tomorrow. Avoid walking at the exposed seafront at high tide. The weather increases tide table values by 0.5 m. The total forecast tide is 5.00 metres Chart Datum (2.27 mAOD) at Portsmouth, but with the wave action the tide may come in slightly higher than forecast. For 1 hour either side of high water, in Old Portsmouth, the tide may cause minor flooding to the road at East Street, and the boat yards around The Camber. Large waves will cause spray overtopping at Southsea promenade and Eastern Road. To protect property, the tidal defence gates at Old Portsmouth will be closed. After this tide‚ no further impacts are expected. We continue to monitor the forecast, and are liaising with the local authority over flood defence gate closures. Tuesday afternoon's tide at 13:45 on 01/10/2019 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with strong South Westerly Force 6 winds. The weather increases tide table values by 0.28 m (surge). The forecast tide is 5.30 metres Chart Datum (2.57 mAOD) at Portsmouth. In magnitude, tide levels are similar to those recorded on Sunday lunchtime. For 1 hour either side of high water, minor flooding into the road at East Street and to boat yards at The Camber is expected. The tidal defence gates at Old Portsmouth will be closed to protect property. After this tide‚ the weather becomes more settled and no further impacts are expected along the south coast. We continue to monitor tide levels and have liaised with the local authority over tidal defence gate closures. Some roads may be flooded by the high tide and heavy rainfall which is also forecast. Avoid driving or walking through flood water. We will remove this message by 18:00 on 01/10/2019

Wednesday morning's tide at 10:45 on 07/11/2018 is higher than normal as unsettled weather brings strong southerly force 7 winds and large waves. Levels will be similar to those recorded in January this year. For an hour either side of high tide, water will flood parts of the road in East Street and cause minor impacts to the boat yards around The Camber. Overtopping at Southsea promenade and Eastern Road is also expected. The tidal defence gates at Old Portsmouth will be closed to protect property. The weather increases tide table values by 0.40 m (surge) giving a forecast tide of 5.32 metres Chart Datum (2.59 mAOD) at Portsmouth. Tide levels remain high until Saturday, but are much closer to normal, with only minor impacts expected. We continue to monitor the forecast. Keep away from the more exposed southern frontage at high tide. This message will be removed by 07/11/2018 at 16:00 as further significant impacts are not expected.

On Saturday, Storm Brian brings strong winds, large waves and water levels higher than a normal high spring tide. It is possible that actual water levels might be 0.1m higher than forecast. At the peak of high tide, water could flood parts of the road in East Street and cause minor impacts to the boat yards around The Camber. Wave heights could reach 3m so spray overtopping of Southsea promenade and Eastern Road is expected. The tidal defence gates at Old Portsmouth will be closed. Keep away from the more exposed southern frontage. This Flood Alert will be removed around 1600hrs on 21/10/2017 when coastal conditions will have returned to normal.
