In the early hours of the morning, the tide at Portsmouth came in over forecast. A similar pattern is possible at next high tide and with winds increasing, a Flood Alert is being issued as a precautionary measure. Any impacts will be very minor, and confined to the immediate sea front. At high tide, water will be high at South Street, Queen Street, Langstone High Street and the Ship Inn car park. We are installing stop logs at the southern end of Emsworth Mill pond and lowering the pond level. We recommend installing flood protection. This message will be updated by 12:00 on 05/03/2018. Tonight, the forecast tide is close to thresholds, so a Flood Alert is being issued as a precautionary measure. Impacts are expected to be minor and confined to the immediate water front. At high tide, water will be high at South Street and Queen Street Emsworth. We are installing stop logs at the southern end of Emsworth Mill pond. The Ship Inn car park at Langstone may flood. At Langstone High street, we recommend parked cars are moved and flood protection installed. Tides remain high over the next few days, but are not near to Flood Alert thresholds. The tide forecast at Portsmouth is below Flood Alert level and large waves are not expected. However, as the tide has been coming in slightly over forecast, it is possible that it will brush Flood Alert threshold. The tide is almost 0.3m lower than yesterday so any flood impacts would be minor with smaller amounts of water in car parks and possible at the bottom of Langstone High street. Flood protection could be installed as a precautionary measure. The Environment Agency have lowered levels at Emsworth Mill Pond. At lunchtime, the tide will be much higher than yesterday and wave heights are increasing again. More serious flood impacts are expected. Water will be high around South Street in Emsworth, the Ship Inn car park, Langstone and the A259 junction with Lumley Road could flood. The bottom of Langstone high street and south Emsworth Mill Pond will also be affected so flood protection products should be installed. The Environment Agency will also install stop logs at the south of the Mill Pond to help protect property. This Flood Alert will be updated by 18:00 on 04/01/2018. The tide will be very similar to that experienced last night. Forecast wave heights have reduced significantly so any overtopping impacts will be minor. Impacts will be restricted to residents at the immediate water front. More vulnerable properties with flood protection products should install them as a precautionary measure. Avoid parking cars close to the water front at Langstone High Street. Tide levels and waves increase again for the tide at 12:30 on 04/01/2018. Cars should be moved from the bottom of Langstone High Street. Residents in Langstone and Emsworth with flood protection products should deploy them before high tide. The forecast tide tonight is just below Flood Alert threshold. However, force 8 winds and fairly large waves (2.5m), could impact the very immediate water front. Residents with flood protection products should install them and consider not parking cars near the sea front at Langstone High Street. The Environment Agency have drained Emsworth Mill Pond. Tide levels are increasing over the next 48 hours and further Flood Alerts will be issued. Property protection products should be left in place. On Saturday, Storm Brian brings strong winds and large waves up to 3m. It is possible that actual tide levels might be 0.1m higher than forecast. Water will be high around South Street, Emsworth and Queen Street near the Slipper Pond. The Environment Agency will install stop logs at the southern end of Emsworth Mill pond, property protection should also be used. The Ship Inn car park at Langstone may flood. Water will be high at Langstone High street where parked cars should be moved and flood protection also installed. This Flood Alert will be removed around 1600hrs on 21/10/2017 when coastal conditions will have returned to normal.
